It was a poor Town performance- Defence jittery at times somehow look more assured with Tinno - Wilkinson showed promise. Midfield - Ashton + Sam show determination + fight but no creativity from anyone. O'Connor needs to hang up his boots. Attack Sheron showed he had a brain but having a brain in not a prerequisite for playing for Salop at the moment - lets all hoof it and as a result their No.4 had Luke in his pocket all night - Luke never wins a header so why hoof it!!!! Yes he ran his socks off but what did he have to show for it?? Langmead suits Peters " direct" style more than Sheron. When are we going to play some basic football??? It was as if we had settled for a draw at home with the bottom side from the off - very disappointing

Maybe an early return for Ben Smith

I admit Sam wasn't at his best last night, but then he's a left winger and was being plaed slightly out of position. He still went as close as anyone to scoring for us.
Personally, I think he's been one of the players of the season purely because, as someone said the other day, he's by far and away the best player in the team at taking the ball round defenders. The rest of them just kick it past and hope to do them for speed. It usually doesn't work.
Off the top of my head, I can think of two games this season that are really good examples of how important he is. At home to Bury, we're 2-0 down and coasting to defeat. On the hour, Sam comes on, livens up the attack, starts winning corners and free kicks and we're level in just 10 minutes, having created nothing all game. We'd have won it too, if he hadn't been controversially sent off. ;D
Away at Mansfield the other week, we bossed the majority of the game but just couldn't find the net. When they got a jammy deflected goal, our heads dropped a bit and it looked like we'd had it. On comes Sam and within five minutes he's burned past his marker and set Luke up with the perfect ball for the equaliser. Towards the end of the game, we had further chances to win it.
We always look less potent when he's not in the side - he's the only natural winger we've got.

Maybe an early return for Ben Smith Smith would have buried the chance Tolley had (when he hit the post) if his showing earlier in the season is anything to go by.

Even though he got injured about 6 games in, Smith was our equal top scorer right up until at least Christmas. If he's starting for the reserves then his shoulder must be alright, because it's just as physical as the first team. Let's just hope he getshis match fitness back up to scratch sooner rather than later.

From where we were standing on the Wakeman end it was a definite penalty. I agree that Sedge is a better bet than O'Conner. O'C should sit and control midfield not chase round like a headless chicken, which I think he has done for the last 2 games. I'm a bit puzzled as to why Sam was taken off. GP should have played him and Edwards on the wings.
