I stood on the Wakeman in my usual place and never heard anything ontoward at all although that does not mean it didn't happen of course. What i would say is that the way the club went about it is wrong. Firstly it killed what little atmosphere there was stone dead and secondly it's an abdication of the clubs responsibilty to issue a general warning which everyone is affected by instead of tackling headon the individuals concerned and stamping the problem out once and for all.
We are not a massive crowd and it would not be at all difficult for the people responsible within the ground to enforce this in a more professional manner.

I actually think the club did the right thing and try and nip it in the bud, but its about time the stewards acted on it

Why is it PC? It may not be the correct course of action (I'd kick the out to be honest) but it's not about being PC. That said, I heard a stack of abusive and threatening language coming out of the mouth of a club official today, aimed at a Shrewsbury Town fan, and am seriously considering writing a letter of complaint about it.

The question is" Welshshrew" is this. If I were to call you a welsh barsteward, where would you find the offence? Is it the word Welsh or is it the word barsteward? For me it would be the word barsteward. Always assuming of course that this incorrect.

Standing on the Riverside I saw several groups of people all mouthing the name of the 'usual suspect'.
So the fans know who it is, as do the club, police and stewards. So why are these people still allowed into the games?
It needs more than a well intentioned tannoy announcement to rid our club of this cancer.

It needs more than a well intentioned tannoy announcement to rid our club of this cancer. That's exactly my point from earlier Terry. The club have to accept responsibility for grasping this issue by the throat and dealing with it once and for all. Some well intentioned PR exercise won't address it, it just feeds the ego of the dickheads perpertrating this garbage.

If you were to call me a Welsh barsteward, I would simply assume that you were an uneducated t**t, with a lot of personal issues that you tend to resolve by making tedious aggresive posts on a football messageboard, and would feel a lot of sympathy for you. You miserable old

We always had an annonucement before the game started warning that racist comments would be dealt with.
Perhaps its time to bring this back and back it up with some active stewarding with help from the Police.
One or two arrests with a rapid court appearence from any offenders would do the trick as basically these people are cowards.

If you were to call me a Welsh barsteward, I would simply assume that you were an uneducated twit, . How very true. I recently had the pleasure of participating in a supporters match where i was subjected to a torrent of nationalist abuse from an opposing player. I remember thinking at the time, 'what an uneducated twit' .

An honourable stance JAMO, but why did you not step in to repremand that bloke who gave me some "sizeist abuse" when I accidently trod on his foot following the "goal"

For me it would be the word barsteward. Always assuming of course that this incorrect. Well, technically that is racist abuse. But it's how you follow it up, e.g. calling someone a 'Welsh scummer' or whatever is a statement about their ancestry, but saying 'you're Welsh so you must Sh** sheep' is a racial slur and stereotyping. Technically there's nothing wrong with calling a black person 'black', but implying that black players are monkeys or saying they should get back on the banana boats or using the 'N' word with it's KKK overtones (Big Ron!) is wrong. An old guy next to me referred to Uhlenbeek as needing "a shirt with longer arms in it" (meaning he was a gorilla). He didn't shout it aloud, but it's still a racist sentiment because he wouldn't have said it about a white player. If you call everyone Barstewards then I presume you're an angry vocal type with a limited vocabulary, but be careful when adding any racial epithet in case you turn it into an unfair comment on a whole group of people.

how much would it cost to stick 3 plain clothes coppers in the riverside/ wakeman for a few home games. surely all it needs is to do this, with a few coppers back up to get the racist gits away.

I heard the announcement. It is quite laughable, there are more stewards in the Station End and Away Stand than the offending Wakeman End.It is is time for Shrewsbury Town to reconsider its stewarding policy.Hopefully more stewards in the Wakeman End would eradacite this.

Would it be racist if they had shouted "get back to Holland"
or is it racist calling a 'pakistani' a 'paki' ?
