Apologies if this has already been posted but Whitters sent out a club press release earlier. I don't have much time now to put in on the main site but I feel it would be good to air it here.
Top stuff
SHREWSBURY TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB PRESS RELEASE:
Shrewsbury Town Players Donate Their Bonus To Local Children’s Charity
Shrewsbury Town’s players will be donating their match bonuses from 1st January 2005 until the end of the season to local Children’s charity Hope House.
Their bonus scheme is based on points picked up in games up till the end of the season. This could mean a donation of over £10,000 to the local charity by the end of the season.
Shrewsbury Town manager Gary Peters is delighted by his side’s decision and believes it will give a huge boost to the charity: "It’s a great gesture from the players of Shrewsbury Town to give this money to Hope House.
"The lads don’t get paid that much and for them to donate this money really show’s what a great bunch of lads we’ve got at the club.
Shrewsbury Town will be holding a photo call to launch the ‘Bonus Donation Scheme’ on Wednesday 12th January 2005 at 13:00pm at Gay Meadow, Shrewsbury.
For more details on this story contact:-
Ian Whitfield or Gary Peters at Shrewsbury Town on 01743 360111.
Nuala O’Kane or Monica Morison at Hope House on 01691 671671

I'm dissapointed. Local children have enough support already.
The Town players should have donated their bonuses to victins of the Tsunami.

A great gesture by the players It's very important that organizations that rely on charitable contributions do not suffer a shortfall of income because of the tremendous response to the tsunami disaster.

Superb stuff from the players, not just for the positive PA but also for simply having it in them to voluntarily help out those less fortunate

Loads of British charities are going to suffer because of the fantastic response by the British public to the Tsunami appeal. Hope House relies entirely on donations for its' upkeep, and I think that this is a marvellous gesture. Well done

I think that while your fully entitled to your opinion you are totally WRONG this is a great charity to support ( and yes I have given to the diaster appeal before you ask)

It is a superb effort by the town players and i hope that they pick upas many points from now until the end of the seaosn, not just for STF C but for the charity.

Lancastrian Shrew - I pray that no one in your family ever needs the services of Hope House, if they do you will then recognise the need for our support for such organisations. There are tragedies in such places every day, they seldom get publicity. I take nothing away from the horror in the happenings in Asia over the last few days and yes I too have subscibed to the disaster fund but I am proud to hear of the generosity of the Town players to such a worthwhile local cause.

Siabod, I believe LancastrianShrew is posting the exact opposite of his real views on a number of threads. Which seems a very CYNICAL move.

excellent gesture, lets just hope we can go on a massive winning streak! also shows a lot more commitment to the town itself from the players, and will stop people thinking some are mercenries that don't care

Loads of British charities are going to suffer because of the fantastic response by the British public to the Tsunami appeal. Hope House relies entirely on donations for its' upkeep, and I think that this is a marvellous gesture. Well done I work for a UK charity and we are cutting our budget due to an anticipated drop in support because people only have so much to give.
