Martin Jol soooo restrained after the game, if only it had been Allardyce, Souness or Keegan doing that interview....

To be fair to the red faced one, he has been saying they should use goal cameras and said that he saw it was a goal.

Rob Lewis may be many things but an olympic sprinter he is not. How can any official be expected to run 40 odd yards in that space of time after first checking there was no offside decision to make. They are never going to be in a position to give a 100% correct call, therfore they can't award a goal.
As for the whole thing being the "fault "of MUFC. What an absolute pile of horses**t. It's interesting to note that those spouting the most nonsense on the subject are some of those who were the most hysterical over the Rodgers incident, a classic example of mindset over facts.

If i were a man u fan i would be more worryied about drawing with Spurs and dropping more points from clearley the best team in the land Chealsea!!!!
These things even them selves out - look at liverpools Game at Chealsea - should have had a pen - then next game at Norwich should have given one away. I bet a ref screws man u over away from home in the next few weeks costing them the title!!!

They DO NOT even themselves out. that would mean that somewhere along the line man u are going to lose a game due to a dodgy decision (as if that's going to happen) and Spurs will end up winning a game that would otherwise have been a draw thanks to a dodgy decision. how many dodgy decisions have gone manure's way and how many go the other way to make up for it? i'd say about 80 : 20 in favour of man u (also the other top 3 get dodgy decisions too) at the end of the day, i don't think the one point that manure have been awarded tonight will make any difference to their final position - can only see them finishing 3rd. Where as those 2 points lost for spurs could well make a big difference for the european placings of 5th and 6th

Cant believe i am about to do this but here goes... I cant see how anyone can blame the officials or Utd the linesman was following play and tried to get back but due to distance couldnt see for sure if the ball is over the line. I hate Man Utd with all my heart ;D but unfortunately this is just one of those things in football, TV pictures can make it look obvious due to the many camera angles they have, however officials can only give what they see...

American football has a fun system where you get a certain amount of calls of decisions in a game, ie say a touchdown is scored but the umpires think there was a fumble the coach can call it and the video will be viewed and checked for the correct out come.
I think some thing like this could be implemented in the UK and with goal line technologies but it would only be applicable in the finals of competitions, lets be fari it could never happen on a world wide all level basis. But I think if last nights incident happened in a final you would be rightly aggrieved and I would have no problem with the essence of a game being different at that stage as it in many ways already is.
I would hate to think this would become a prem only issue, but a final, only issue I could not see a problem with.
And giving managers the power to question a ref 1 or 2 times in a game would be a) fun, b) Make refs more accountable c) cut out some mistakes

Are you saying that it wasn't over the line last night?? Are you saying it wasn't a dodgy decision?

Jamo, are you bit of a Man U fan? If anyone stands on the halfway line you can see the ball has crossed the line if it is by 3 foot. We all go to games and we all know this is a very suspect decision by the officials. In the interests of sportsmanship the goalkeeper should have owned up.

To be fair, there is no way on earth any keeper is going to own up to letting a goal in. particuarly if he has made a massive cock up and is responsible for it. so you can't blame carroll for doing that.
but it shouldn't be up to carroll or any other keeper to say if the ball has crossed the line

That will amuse the ghost , foxie If that decision had gone against the Town on saturday i would have gone mental, of course it's a dodgy call but it sometimes happens. My disagreement is with those who wish to believe that there is some sort of conspiracy between MUFC and football official's when in fact the opposite is probably more accurate. And please tell me which professional goalkeeper in any league would have casually walked upto the ref and admitted the ball had crossed the line.It would never happen and if it did and that goalkeeper was representing the Town i would personally abuse him at every opportunity. You take what you can get away with.

had it happened at the other end, though, the linesman would have assumed that it was over the line, and given it just in case he had to see Sir Alex after the game.

Back in the late 70's we were playing Portsmouth in the old div 3. Approximately 2 minutes from kick off we scored a "goal" in the side netting. The fans behind the goal at the Wakeman end knew it didn't go in, the Shrewsbury players didn't appeal for the goal and the Portsmouth players got a bit narked. The Ref gave the goal.
About 4 minutes later Chick Bates did a swallow dive in the Portsmouth penalty area, nobody within 2 yards of him. Their keeper picked up the loose ball, Chick Bates got up and started walking towards the centre line and lo and behold, the ref gave a penalty. Nobody had even appealed for one. The Portsmouth players were a bit narked. So we were 2-0 up within 6 minutes. Were we cheating "b@r stewards". Did "we", (the players, the fans, Alan Durban etc. stand up and say "I say ref old bean, I think you may have made a mistake"?).
By the way, we won 6-1 and Portsmouth got relegated.
As much as I hate Man Utd....they played to the "whistle".

I don't see how the linesman can be protected from this. Replays clearly show that he was about 18-20 yards out when the ball "crossed" the line, if people on the halfway line can see it went in, then why can't he? If referees are suspended for not sending off players for 2 yellows like one was earlier this season, then linesman should be suspended for similar incompotence.

no one has mentioned the offside decision reb lewis gave against man u in the first half when a player would have been clean through on goal video showed he was onside he would have scored utd would not have needed to push forward late on and would have won 1-0 no one cheated everyone did their best
