Ok, today we met probably the best side in the Div (and, according to some, the best side in this Div "ever", on account of how so many former "quality" players are now finding their way down to lower levels after the ITV TV Deal collapsed). But, next weekend, we meet Rushden...... formally a rising star due to their financial fairy godfather - Dr Marten. Now, in freefall as their "hired guns" go seek richer pastures. I hate football cliches, but this is a true "6 pointer". I fully expect GP to field a side that brings us a comfortable 2-0 win, no frills, just 3 pts!

Big game Saturday no doubt but not the be all and end all whatever happens, and I know you are not saying that either. Personally whatever happens I've seen enough improvement in us over the past few weeks to feel confident we'll win 7 or more of our remaining home games and we'll pick up enough away points along the way to hit 50 plus points. I know people will have a go at me for my falsly placed optimism and complacency etc but I will be absolutely staggered if we are relegated now, absolutely gobsmacked. The situation is nothing like the Ratcliffe season IMO,in fact I'm even looking forward to going to games again rather than dreading it. No those that disagree may be right and I might have to eat a huge piece of humble pie, fair enough,8 weeks ago I would have said we may well be relegated.......now,no chance. Professor Pat Pending I may be coming to join you, wherever you are

Rushden are a typical non-league team they come up, have a few good seasons then fade, fast. Mainly becasuse on the pitch the bring in to many 'hired guns' as you rightly put it and don't have the set up off the pitch to support themselves. Point is there not the juggornaught they once were. Here's a few other examples: Rushden-Promoted to Div3, then to Div 2. Sugardaddy pulls out, fairweather fans return to armchairs-club enters freefall. Kiddie-Promoted to Div 3, nearly reach play-offs. Everyone in Kiddie supports Wolves/WBA-hence club gets no support, chairman quits when we nearly out number the home fans at a previous away game. Macca-Like Kiddie come up, get promoted again but don't have the required built up support that comes from 20+ years in the league. Hence they fail to maintain momentum and struggle. Scarboro-Go up, no one cares. Dump along in Div 3. Get relegated, no one cares Halifax-See above As for us...only time will tell! BRING ON RUSHDEN! For the first time in ages I genuinly feel positive about the direction STFC is taking on the pitch. THANK YOU GARY PETERS ;D
