Just got back and read all the very interesting stuff abut this subject on threads below.
Just want to make a couple of points.
1)Being there the situation didnt look good to me for Luke at the time, though I cant say that I saw him raise a hand but in his efforts to get up off the ground and seperate himself from the opponent it did all look very aggresive and I wasnt surprised to see a red card.
2)Chic and the great man GP both told me in person(hate to name drop, but I will, please dont start on me as some of you do on Matt )that as they both saw it Luke was simply trying to get up, and Luke being Luke who does everything at 100 mph did in their views nothing wrong and the ref had made a mistake.
GP said that he had just had a long chat to the ref who had promised to take the video home, review it and he said that if he had made a mistake on looking at things again, would recind the red card.GP was adamant that Luke had done nothing wrong.
Now this may all be political shananagins of supporting Luke in public, etc only time will tell but I can honestly tell you that I was certainly convinced by GP that he thought it was a poor decision, personally I aint so sure.
3) and finally and this is not to excuse Luke in anyway BUT if you were there today you would have seen Luke on the receiving end of one of,if not the worst ,challenges I have ever seen on a football field, when the first sending off took place.
It was without doubt a career threatening tackle that could have finished Luke there and then,he was limping quite badly as he walked to the coach after the game.
If he did deserve to go he was stupid and let us all down............after talking to several people after the game who were alot closer than I was I aint quite so sure about my judgement.
