I also think we should change the formation up, if nothing else than to give the opposition something different to think about. Pierre has been decent at times and could well flourish in the middle of a back three with the two Feeneys and then we could play Hoole and Benning as proper wingbacks. The midfield/ front five is more problematic but I would play Winchester or Rossiter as the holding midfielder with O'Reilly and Shipley wide. Shipley has been one of our best players under the two previous managers and has scored some spectacular goals and it is a complete mystery to me how Hurst has not been able to use Shipley's talents effectively this season. For the two remaining spaces upfront we should try Marquis and Lloyd together upfront first half and then throw on some subs from Castledine, Bloxham and Sagoe early in the second half to give us extra pace and creativity. Probably none of this will happen of course but our present formation and tactics have been worked out by almost all the teams we have played against this season and we need to roll the dice a bit. Rossiter was the only player trying to gee up the team and for that alone, I would like to see more of him. As we badly need Somone in the squad to give a bit of verbal encouragement.

Credit to all those that go on Saturday,
I'd like to think its a scrappy draw I'll go 1-1.

I think it's Feeney who's next in line to be Captain, although its no bad thing to have other leaders on the field.

One of the reasons why I'll probably go to the mid week Birmingham FLT game is that it might be a chance to see something different from Town,
I'd expect the Bench to at least play.
Just seen that Hoole and Pierre have been called up again after the Bolton game.

What’s the crack with our sub goalkeeper ?
We haven’t been told he’s injured have we?
Are we really taking a risk just to get another outfield player on the bench

Are we really taking a risk just to get another outfield player on the bench Short answer Yes, Seems to be a Hurst thing that he wants 7 outfield players available, Which is interesting given he leaves it too late. Young seems fine, he warms up with Savin, I don't think he's injured.

my take on it, put the keeper on the bench instead of Nurse , in fact leave Nurse at home, I think he must have a clause in his contract that states he doesnt have to play , its bizarre

I think we all know what is coming on Saturday. Surely a sound drubbing will trigger the change in management that we so desperately need. I read posts saying 'we can't afford to sack him'. The reality is we simply can't afford to keep hold of him. As it stands, we'll soon be like a Forest Green and be so cut adrift at the bottom, nothing could save us.
We need someone in that will reunite a very fractured, apathetic support and get the best out of a very poorly recruited squad.

I certainly wouldn't

Does anyone know what sort of contract Hurst and Doig are on?
It could be a month to month given how they took off and ran the last time.

If it’s not that, he must be seriously unfit or physically unable because the amount of minutes he’s had is mad. He can’t even get himself on the pitch to take long throws, which I’d have done every time we are behind with 10 the play plus injury time.

I can understand why some supporters are crying out for us to play three at the back, but there is one obvious problem, we only have two decent centre backs! I know some might say (copyright N Gallagher) that Pierre plays best in back three but I beg to differ as I think Pierre plays best when he’s sat on the bench or nowhere near the matchday squad! Sorry Aaron, I rated you a few years ago but the current version ain’t the same, no offence!

I can't help but feel that the 'lets not have a back up keeper on the bench and instead rely on an outfield player because he played Gaelic football' will be one of those legendary things that we look back on and laugh at but also recognising that it was the time Hurst started to lose the plot

There was a time when we could feel confident that a Shrewsbury team could defy the odds and win this one. But not any more I’m afraid. You should always be confident ssshrew because as you proved last year, anything can happen. It’s true that Wanderers really look to have found some form but we do have a habit of coming unstuck so you never know. What I do know is that if you come out to play attacking football against us you’ll probably come badly unstuck but the teams we struggle against most are the ones who play a defensive blocking game which we find very difficult to break down. I’d say that’s your best chance, frustrate us and try to catch us on the break. Although we’re firing on all cylinders up front at the moment we’re not so solid at the back, as the two silly late goals we conceded at Northampton on Tuesday testify. Let’s just hope it’s a good game because we both need the points albeit for different reasons and isn’t spoiled as so many are by poor refereeing? Obviously I’m hoping for a win but as I have a soft spot for you guys I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season.

Here's my starting 11...
Buffon
Roberto Carlos Cafu Nesta Maldini Zidane Vieira Messi Skinny Ronaldo Henry Fat Ronaldo
Probably still lose because Buffon gets red carded...Hurst hasn't got a sub keeper on the bench, so Roberto Carlos goes in goal...then Hurst makes subs at 80mins...takes skinny ronaldo off for a crocked Michael Owen or something.

Can only see a home win tomorrow, though we will probably look good going forward (without scoring unfortunately)

Think there’s a bit more to it Shipley should be the first name on the team sheet based on skills alone, also Marquis seems out of favour despite his previous record, Kayode played 20 mins on 20/08 picked up a knock which we were told would keep him out a couple of weeks, not heard of since, always a week or two away. Is Joe Young injured? Just how long is Nurse going to take to get his head sorted? Into month 15 of his recovery, played in the first friendly in July yet not ready, some say understandably but I don’t understand it, 8 mins played so far this season?? Joe Young isn’t injured, even when he’s not on the bench he’s been warming up with Savin and Jensen before each game. Fear not because Carl Winchester is the goalkeeping back-up, I wish I was joking! www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/2024/10/02/carl-winchesters-gaelic-football-background-makes-him-ideal-shrewsbury-town-back-up/Ah knew it was mentioned at some point. trouble is that he wasn't even included in the squad on Tuesday!

Expect similar team. Maybe a change or two depending on fitness.
Is Winchester back? Presume he will come back in if fit. If so reckon it would be for Rossiter who I reckon probably doesn't have 2 games in a week in him yet.
Maybe a change to one of the wide players? Shipley looks out of favour, and Sagoe definitely offers something, so maybe he comes in for Bloxham.
Would like O'Reilly to start but think that's too much to ask.

In reality (I hope) the game will be closer than expected, Town have a habit of playing well and getting something from these sorts of games, look at last season and also Derby.
I just hope they don't get picked off and lose narrowly.

I just hope they don't get picked off and lose narrowly. Exactly mrc despite being in similar good form last year when you came we ended up lucky to get a point so you just never know. Of course we have a much stronger forward line this season and they all seem to be hitting form together so I’d expect us to have a few more big wins whilst they’re firing but no games a cert and if the players go out thinking it’s going to be easy they could be in for a shock. We’ve been scoring early in games in the last few from which we’ve been able to go forward so if you can frustrate us it may work to your advantage. We do need the points though after our awful start so I would think everyone will be on blob for the game. In fairness although you’ve been losing away it’s been narrowly so you must be doing something right and it shouldn’t take much for you to turn it around. I’m just hoping that’s not tomorrow!! 🙁
