Cant imagine Mr Wycherley is going to be too impressed with the dust and noise of the demolition!... his house is across the road from the site

Turn it into a prison to relieve over crowding and to avoid the need for early release

I fully back moving into the town centre for the offices, but I do fear about the transport infrastructure. It says 250 are using it as a base, but in my experience I wonder if that is 250 who are there 9-5 5 days a week, as it definitely appears there are more than 250 in the building in the days I spend there. Fair few of them are there for meetings & training etc and come and go (this is my use of shirehall) rather than there all day but they still are physically there.
That means you transplant most of them into a public car park that isn't that easy to access. Yes it's near the train and bus station but I'd be surprised if many are going to commute for a 2 hour meeting via the dire public transport or limited cycle routes.
Just hope guildhall is going to be one of them options rather than the shirehall replacement.
Is the riverside base still within the plans of that development?
No doubt shirehall should and will go though, and hopefully raises a bit of much needed cash

c20society.org.uk/buildings-at-risk/shirehall-shropshirewww.myshrewsbury.co.uk/blog/saving-shirehall-the-case-in-favour/Historic England dont even think it is worth saving, hence the Certificate of Immunity. I would love the protestors who have set up SOS to actually undertake a working week in Shirehall in the summer and in the winter to see how bad the building is. I recall discussions when i worked there about refurbishment but ultimately that was going to cost millions of pounds - for a near poverty council that would not be a good look tarting up a carbuncle when people are moaning about the state of the roads etc. I worked in Whitehall for many years and have joined SOS. IMO it is an attractive gateway into the town, far more so than yet another identikit housing development.

Unlike NHS staff at the hospital!

I worked in mental health hospitals about a dozen years ago and it was nothing new.

But at what cost and how could it be repurposed? It reflects the "white heat" of design of it's time but has the problems too, asbestos being one.

Its because the car parks that surround the NHS Hospitals are privately owned unfortunately, I agree its ridiculous that staff should have to pay to park there. Several years ago a friends wife worked in one of the regional city Hospital and was paying over £1000 a Year for a permit.
