Difficult to forgive the last government for the cynical cut in National Insurance to try to get a few votes. Why ? you do realise the phallacy that NI goes directly towards the NHS, National Insurance is just more TAX and goes into a great big pot called TAX Of course it's one big pot. But Hunt's vote buying 2p cut in NI obviously means less money in that one big TAX pot! That's less money that could have been used to build the new hospitals Boris promised, less money to fill the black hole, less money to revive all the other public services run down over the last few years. In other words, a cynical attempt by Hunt to try to buy votes

I'm 64 (turn 65 next March) and suddenly the NHS is taking a keen interest in me! I was sent the bowel screening kit last month (not the first time mind, I think it was the 3rd time) and now I've been invited for AAA screening and my GP practice also want to book me in for an MOT for when I turn 65! Oh and I can also have the shingles and flu jab from next Autumn. I'm glad that they are looking after me, I just wonder if there is anything else they want to screen me for! Went for my AAA screening today, all done and dusted in less than 15 minutes. Very efficient and they wont want to see me ever again!

No Turned out that my aorta was only 1.6cm wide so no aneurysm found. Anything less that 3cm means that no treatment or monitoring is needed and so there is no reason for me to be invited back for screening ever again. I'm glad I had it done.

Difficult to forgive the last government for the cynical cut in National Insurance to try to get a few votes. Why ? you do realise the phallacy that NI goes directly towards the NHS, National Insurance is just more TAX and goes into a great big pot called TAX I think most people believe that national insurance contributions pay for our state pensions, rather than the NHS, given that you need to buy years of NI contributions to qualify for the state pension. NICs are paid into the National Insurance Fund, and not into the Treasury's "great big pot called tax". They're two separate things. The Fund pays for contributory benefits, primarily the state pension but there are others. Often it's in surplus, and some of the surplus might go towards the NHS, pay off national debt or be held in reserve. Sometimes it's in deficit, and the Treasury has to allocate funds to ensure all contributory benefit obligations are paid in full. I agree that NICs are another form of taxation but it's not correct to say that all forms of tax go into a single pot. There is a difference, in a similar way to how council tax revenues are applied for certain types of spending rather than going into a general pot.

I'd never heard of this thing until I read this thread. Now I've got my appointment next month. Hope I get as good a result as yours!
