If you have a spare half hour, checkout the list of former league clubs on Wikipedia. Highly enjoyable and fascinating too. If you've spent half an hour checking these things out how come you've not come up with the correct answers. 🙄 it was a couple of years ago.⏳⏳

Middlesbrough ironworks & Gateshead / South Shields?? No, Middlesbrough Ironopolis were in the league but resigned after there first year in 1893/4Â Gateshead not re elected 1959/60 and South Shields never been it it. South shields were elected to the league after WW1 but relocated to Gateshead and adopted the name of their new home.

You are correct 👏 Only listed as Gateshead from 1919/20 to their last season 59/60. Seems South Shields Adelaide Athletic changed to Gateshead around 1930 after relegation and financial difficulties….Finally missed out on re election in 1960, replaced by Peterborough. this bits of interest, it’s their fault we missed out on election in 1937 With the club's performances in decline thereafter, they finished second-from-bottom in 1936–37 and were forced to seek re-election. However, they were easily re-elected, winning 34 votes to the 12 received by the most successful non-League club, Shrewsbury Town.
