Oh, and I met a man in the trials pharmacy who was on a trial for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, very aggressive and quite often deadly. He said he would be dead now, but the trial of Inobrodib and other drugs had stopped the leukaemia in it's tracks, and he had even gone into slight remission. Always something new, folks. Never give up.

Absolutely. Some really good stories from you both which should give heart to everyone. Jaytee you are a complete star and someone to be admired whether you like it or not. In fact, and I hesitate to say this, you are an inspiration to me. I am in the middle of my chemotherapy treatment and have now to go once a week for the next eight weeks having been every three weeks up until now. It is quite hard but so many have told me it’s worth it so I plough on. I had an operation in October which went well and I have radiotherapy to look forward to later! I remember Minor’s dad as well - a lovely, gentle man. Dad's cancer was discovered totally by accident, he slipped off a ladder and cut his leg, so then had blood tests etc. and hey presto.

It’s amazing how often that happens. My mother slipped on a pavement and they discovered it when they were checking for broken ribs.

For those of you who, men or women, haven't had a check up yet, I urge you to go. My cancer was only found by accident as well. I felt perfectly well. I expect you've seen the advert where a man has a box with the handle turning and he's worried he might have cancer, but when the GP opened the box it was empty, I have to see the funny side, when they openerd my box, I said, "oh bugger....."

When I worked in the NHS, uptake on certain screening programmes (bowel screening, for example) in some communities was much lower than the England average. Fortunately, with targeted campaigning, the uptake has improved in recent years.
Latest data shows the proportion of people choosing to participate in bowel screening has increased to 70.3% – the highest on record. However, almost one third (30%) of people aren’t returning their test kit.
The first time I received the kit I completed the test and returned it; I'm glad I did as 3 weeks later I was sent to have a colonoscopy to remove a number of polyps, that could have developed into cancer. I now have an annual check up and to date no further polyps have been found.

That’s good news. We do that screening as well.
My advice to all on here is - if you’re offered screening or decide you want to be screened for something then go for it. It really is so important.

Indeed. Just to add that my wife's breast cancer was picked up on a routine breast screening programme, another invaluable NHS screening programme.

Yes indeed. I hope she has recovered now. She has, thank you. She had, what at the time, was ground breaking treatment at the Christie.

Breast cancer treatment has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years. I've got rellies and wives of friends around my neck of the woods who have all made a complete recovery.
