Aiston and Tolley live in Shrewsbury I think, Edwards lives in Hanwood (or at least comes from there), Howie lives in Wellington, Moss lives in Wrexham, Tinno lives in Connah's Quay, Ridler and Lowe live in Liverpool, Grant lives in Manchester, Sedgemore lives in Codsall, O'Connor lives in Walsall, Langmead lives in Coventry, Rodgers and Darby live in Birmingham, Challis lives in Bristol. Walton lives in Nantwich, Street lives in Crewe.
I think thats it ;D theyre all wild guesses tho!

So basically only about 2 or 3 players live in shrewsbury?! I know they have all of their families and stuff where thay are, but don't you think that there should be more living here?

In defence of them, you wouldnt uproot your missus and kids to Shrewsbury from another part of the country just for a one or two year contract would you?
I think the players could rent houses together in Shrewsbury, but when it comes to moving your kids to another school or forcing your missus to find another job just for a short term contract then I guess they cant justify it.
Aiston only lives in Shrewsbury because Newcastle is too far away to commute from every day. Gary Peters lives in Stockport, I think Whitehead lives in Telford (although hes originally from Bromsgrove) and Chico lives in Shrewsbury I think. Not sure where Ben Smith lives but I think its somewhere in Shropshire, could be Telford.

Would be a start if a few of them lived in Salop for starters-these guys are pro footballers there hardly working for minimum wage! 'Commuting' to games/trainning is hardly ideal. I'm sure the young free and single players like Langmead & Lyng will relocate tho just to save on travel costs.

Then again I think Lowe is single and he has always lived in Liverpool whilst he's been here, Ratcliffe, Quinny or Peters have never complained about it though.
Birmingham is less than an hour away from Shrewsbury, Liverpool and Manchester takes about an hour and a half. Its no point having a manager urging all the players to move to Shropshire when he doesnt live local himself, the last STFC manager I remember who wanted everyone to live local was Jake King! It would be great if all the players lived in Shrewsbury like the 'good old days' but it just wont happen anymore, and its the same with nearly every lower league club. Football is a very insecure buisness and being a professional footballer in the Coca Cola League Two is a very insecure profession even if it is reasonably well paid.

In GP's Reading days the club had a few houses that they owned for players to live in. Virtually the whole team lived within the 10 miles of the club.
Personally, I don't think Shrewsbury housing is too expensive for the club to do that, given what we are used to here.

Surely it's got little to do with where the players live.
It only becomes a problem when either a player fails to turn up where and when they're supposed to, for training or particularly a match, or where a long commute is clearly affecting their preperation for a game.
You can't expect players - particularly those with wives and kids to uproot every 2 years or so. It may be different if we signed someone who lived in Kent for example...but other than that they all seem to live within 50-60 miles so I don't see it as a problem.

STFC used to own houses, what happened to them?
I agree that's it's unreasonable to expect players to move to Shrewsbury, especially when they have families. It's an insecure career and a player would be irresponsible if he didn't provide his family with a secure base.
We are close to Brum, Liverpool and Manchester, so it's likely that most of our players will come from these areas.
Outside of the rush hour I can drive from Manchester to Shrewsbury in less than 90 minutes which is not much more that it took to get to the centre of Manchester in the rush hour when I worked there.

Ben Smith lives in that new development off St Michaels Street - St Michaels Gate? He lives next door to the brother of a woman at work.

get a basic 2 bed house say £150,000, buy four and that's £600,000? Given I've been looking at the possibility to buy a house to let in Shrewsbury they are around for a lot less. A larger house for the single chaps to live in is certainly a reasonable option. Nice 5 bedder in Belle Vue that has been hanging around a while I notice! And....putting my business hat on....that's money pegged back by the club on wages as players are "renting" off the club as part of a wage package...AND.... it adds to turnover for wage cap calculations...AND it's a potentially increasing asset over a long term given there is a good £50K+ upside on what it would cost in our dear metropolis! After all....if you watched the documentary on Claridge and Weymouth you'd have seen he was staying in club owned accomadation. It's pretty expensive there too! There's more to it than just the price of a house - that thing of having local players is of benifit to the club in terms of building local links too.

Stitch & Currie used to share a house together-that must have fun for the neighbours! Think the players earn enough to rent a decent sized house. Bear in mind commuting 50+ miles 5/6 days a week is hardly a cheap option. Also having players based locally would boost morale and team spirt! Still fair point about not wanting to uproot/be seperated from family members.

I'll give you that, nice find. Small, no good for Stitch, but maybe Luke and Streety could have lived there. My girlfriend's looking to buy in a year or so, and that's as reasonable a price as I've seen.

players used to move locally when signing on fee's were paid, this is no longer the case, also contracts don't mean too much anymore, moving children out of schools, wife's from job's, all for a contract that could be paid up in 12 months. GP is looking towards youth, who can rent/share a house (poor neighbours Sir Mick/Tony Kelly nightmare off the pitch)

Stu Whitehead lives near me in Priorslee, as did Challis until he moved to Brizzle. Granty generally travels down from Manchester a day or two before games and stays with Whitehead. Or at least this was the case in their Telford days, I can't imagine it has changed since? And I'm sure my ex girlfriend told me there was a Jake Sedgemore living a few houses from her in Codsall

The days of Stitch and Currie living in Radbrook are legendary, they used to be in the Inn on the Green all the time out of interest, anyone know where abouts in Radbrook they used to live?
