For those who are keeping up to date with this, hearing tonight that the fan led review will be implemented and will be announced officially next week. It will include tougher rules in ownership, more power for supporters to veto changes to the clubs historical integrity such as colours, badges, names etc. it will also by the looks of it allow the new independent regulator to take money from the prem to distribute to the EFL.
If this is all correct it’s a huge step in safeguarding lower league football.
The devil will be in the detail and key for me is that the regulator has backstop powers to act asap.
Even after the announcement i hope to stay involved to ensure we keep pressure on DCMS to get this in place asap, I also quite like arguing with politicians and members of the lords ;-)

Well done on this, I saw the leaked report this morning and it certainly sounds a step in the right direction and it will be interesting to see the power battles in football now. Whilst plenty will come this, we know there will be people will object

Needs to be a mandatory £1B fine that would be spread across the 72. If they want to go that much they can **** off and we'll have £13m+ each.

as i say devil will be in the detail, as i minimum im hoping for immediate backstop powers, plus substantial penalties for club who decide to sell their souls for a super league.
Im also hoping this focuses a few minds at the prem to get round the table and resolve the financial aspect before the regulator has to get involved

I quite liked the feedback from the Premier League, they said the government ruin everything and can't run anything so what makes them think they can run the best league in the world 😂

A new licensing system will require every club - from the Premier League to the National League - to prove it has a sustainable business model implemented by responsible custodians as part of an application process. If clubs are not granted a license by the regulator, they will not be allowed to compete.
Sounds like something we have here in Germany. I'm not entirely up on how it works but in the past we have seen clubs refused a license to play at certain levels and so they drop down the leagues until they reach a level where they are accepted. Perhaps the UK means to deploy something similar. If they can get it working as it does here then I think it would be good for the game.
But I guess the thing that sticks out from reading that article (and perhaps there is more detail elsewhere) is how this is all going to be enforced. As you suspect the Premier League and perhaps more so one or two top flight clubs aren't going to accept anything they deem will get in the way of the money they think they can make.

A lot to be welcomed here, but very much a case of 'seeing is believing'.

Hopefully there's near on zero government involvement.
