Agree with this. My issue with signing Pyke was always the fact we were giving an unproven player a 3 year deal, if we had signed him for 12 months then I suspect he would have been the same as lots of youngsters we have tried (and failed) Pyke has been a moderately useful squad member this season. Barely league 2 standard of course and he'll be off at the end of the season, but he's surely on a pittance of a salary, works hard, and seems an honest pro, he's just not good enough but that's hardly his fault. That said, I do agree about the three year element but given his modest salary it's unlikely to have cost us much and these kind of transfers sometimes pay off so for me there's been dozens and dozens of worse signings than this. £300,000 over 3 years isn't a "pittance".

I’m sure someone said £2k a week? Nearer £300k

Luke Waterfall...... just awful. Didn’t he score the winner for Grimsby v Wrexham in last season’s play off? Great player IMO!

I agree, but surely no way he's on anywhere close to that kind of salary. I'd speculate he'll have traded a higher salary for the comfort and security of a three year deal. Does anyone really imagine he's on much more than £1000-£1500 a week?

Leon Clarke. Seem to recall he spent most of his time with us injured. Perhaps the signing of unfit players didn’t start this season after all. 😉 Clarke is a funny one. Came from a then premier League side. Made next to no impact here, then played in league two with similar effect. Now has been without a club for 6 months.

I know some have been mentioned already but just thinking about some of the old pro's who signed for us but their legs had clearly gone.
Ritchie Wellens, 18 month contact, 12 appearances Andy Robinson, 12 month contract, 3 appearances Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, 6 month loan, 7 appearances Leon Clarke, 12 month contract, 10 appearances

Remember there being rumours that Robinson's lack of game time was linked to his perchance for a certain something, although those rumours may have been a bit on the nose....

Yes remember hearing similar things I was looking at our transfers from the 15/16 season (the season after we had been promoted), Gerard, Whitbread, Tootle, Woods (Martin), Black, Wellens, Mangan (return) + Patterson, Grandin & McKnight who never played a game between them. For balance did get in Whalley, Ogogo, Brown & Sadler and some decent loans (notably KaiKai), but I'd love to know how much we wasted on that season alone.
