He will be a massive loss to Welsh football. It's just a shame that he couldn't go out on a high at the world cup.

Dave Edwards was very good on describing Bale’s exceptional athletic and football abilities in an In The Stiffs episode.
His destruction of Maicon is unforgettable.

Retired because no one would folk out that ridiculous wage anymore I guess when you have around 100 million in the bank you dont really need to go to work anymore , especially if you dont really like working fair play to him, one of the best players of my time, would have started for any country / club in the world throughout most of his career

As good of a career as he had its a shame he didn't reach his potential. When he left spurs he was one of the best in the world and then wasted so much of his career.

I'm not sure I've heard a greater pile of t*** in my life. He won four champions leagues and took Wales almost single handedly to the semi final of a major tournament. He did get injured and he did lose his way, yes, but he's got a trophy cabinet of a truly world class player.

It was a total joy to watch Bale sitting on Madrid's bench. Then there was that time he was in the stands. Great memories.

After he left Spurs he won 5 Champion Leagues Trophies, 4 FIFA World Club Cups, 3 Spanish Titles, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 1 Copa Del Rey; if that 's not reaching his potential?! Oh and don't forget a very good handicap at golf

I was stuck in a traffic jam this morning listening to an interesting debate on the radio about where Bale would rank amongst the greatest ever British players. I can only comment about players I have seen in my lifetime but I think Bale would rate in the top five with Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore and George Best (for quality rather than longevity) ahead of him and Bale on a par with the likes of Kevin Keegan and Dennis Law. It is a shame that injury and fitness issues have marred his last few years but thinking back to the period just before he signed for Real Madrid he was certainly one of the most exciting attacking players we have ever seen in the top tier of English football. Despite all the hype around modern football stars Bale always gave the impression he never forgot where he came from and was a class act off the pitch as well as on it.

Certainly one of the top 10 British footballers ever; the only debate to be had is where he places in that top 10.
He even scored a goal every other game for Spurs when he came back during their dead-rubber 2020/21 season!

Since joining Real Madrid in 2013/4 he’s played 198 games. In exactly the same period Messi’s played 313… I don’t follow either but have certainly noticed times when Bales been out of favour with a Madrid and it’s fans. Think that’s what Pughywasfree means.

Thank you for actually reading what I said. I stated he has had a good career I was just highlighting that he had potential to the GOAT if he continued his progression from when he was at spurs. It seems you are not allowed an opinion on here without being jumped on. Nowhere have I said he was s**t or had a s**t career, most footballers could only dream of achieving what he has.

I get what you're saying with this, he played 176 games for real madrid in 9 years, that's like 20 games a season. Their fans were even boo'ing him during his last few years because they didn't want him anymore - that isn't a good legacy to leave behind. Yes his trophy cabinet is impressive, but you could have put Grant Holt on that Madrid team those years and he'd have had the same haul.

You constantly stalk me, try to ridicule me and generally be a dick. I've tried to play nice for the good of the board but you are relentless. So don't moan when I give it you back. It was also clearly a tungue in cheek comment as you can obviously read. Maybe I should have put a winking face to make that clear. I'll try once again to be civil from now on but I doubt it'll be long before you try to nit pick at me.

"Wasted his career". Defo needs a winky face if you don't mean it. Arguably the most successful player in Welsh history. The most successful British player overseas in history. Most Champions League wins of any British player. The list goes on. With no fitness and no future he still took LAFC to the MLS Cup doing what he does.
