We should really be looking at Ogbeta on a 6 month loan in January- good opportunity for games but not sure what the relationship is like with Cotterill.
Cole Stockton - we know Cotterill is a fan and he would fit in perfectly in our system. Cut price deal looks good as Liverpool based so could suit.
Bowman- think we’ll let him leave in January providing he’s replaced. Has looked way off it this year. Can see him going Forest Green or Cheltenham
Think with 5 loan slots already allocated can see us cancelling Da Costa to get someone fit in. Too risky holding him if we can find suitable alternative

I feel a bit sorry for Ogbeta as he took the chance of (I suspect) an agent-led ‘big money’ move but his career has gone precisely nowhere since.
He is better suited to playing as a winger and this, added to his lack of games, makes him unsuited to what we need on the left, i.e. a proper LWB.
As for Pyke, he could be given another year as a squad player (something everyone agrees we are short of this season) but it would be better for his own career if he secured a move to a top NL or decent L2 team (as opposed to a team in free fall like Sc***horpe).
A striker, RWB and a CB who can cover anywhere across the back three are other priorities, assuming a couple are going or loans being terminated. Also midfield if we lose Winchester and/or Bayliss but I think we’re ok here if they stay.

Bowman has scored more than Street from far less game time and the same as Pyke who most people want to keep. The only reason I can come up with for keeping Pyke is as cover for wing back if Bennett is still not fit by mid January. The guy should be playing regular football now but I don’t see that happening here.

We need more midfielders, but we need to clear the dead wood for me.

Anything above 0 is more than he should ever have done. In our top 10 worst signings when you factor in the 3 year deal @ £100k a year. All for a player who had scored 1 league goal prior to signing; up to a grand total of 2 league goals now 3 years down the line. Awful all round from Ricketts right up to Roland and whoever in-between sanctioned it.

This window will be the first January window for a long time where it is a stick or twist situation. We have a great chance this season of pushing on for the play offs if the club is ambitious enough. I doubt we will go for it and the safe bet of replacing Street and DeCosta and hoping we continue with our positive league position will be the aim. I also would not be at all surprised if we only ended up bringing in a RWB after "missing out on our targets".
In regards to Pyke, I am not a fan and I do not try to hide it. If we are going to release a player like Whalley then Pyke getting an offer should not even be considered. He has wasted the most important years of his career sitting on our bench and I imagine he will struggle to find another football league club when he leaves us.

This is the first January since the Hurst season where it doesn’t feel like we’re in desperate need of transfer action to get us out of the s**t. So although the squad is small and lacks quality in certain areas I won’t be overly concerned as long as we don’t weaken it - save the big signings for next summer.
The ideal would be a new left wing back option, right wing back option and striker. The latter two may not be required if Dacosta and O’Brien can recover like Lazarus.

You don't like the truth, drink it in. so you are talking about something that never happened , that's us paying league 1 wage in league 2 which are not too far apart anyway but you are happy to chirp along about us paying championship wages in league 1 which is a potential recipe for disaster sums up the hypocritical stance some have on here

Nurse - not expected back this season so can hardly be considered as cover. If he did return, LWB is his best position. Leahy - a left back who does well in midfield (some disagree I know), but lacks the height for a CB. We have been lucky with the availability of our three first choice CBs. Do you want to gamble on things staying like that for the rest of the season? If a loan spot is available, then a young Championship player with some experience would be ideal. Alternatively, someone up and coming from non-league on an 18 month contract with an option to extend. Relatively low cost and low risk. There is nothing wrong with our midfield when we play the right way and assuming no one leaves, as I said.

You make some good points, I wouldn't be against a young loan CB, I'd struggle to justify a permanent CB unless it was one of a good age that challenges the 3x first choice CBs. I'd like another midfielder, someone with a bit of flair. Swapping Street/Pyle out for 1x decent ST would be a result, can't see it happening though. Again swapping DaCosta for a fit RWB makes sense if the right one is available.

For me:
Extend Leahy's and Pennington's contracts.
Return Street and Da Costa, Sign Winchester permanently if possible, that could free up 3 loans.
I'd like to see Permanent signings, however this is Shrewsbury. Stockton could be one such move.
More midfielders ideally, I'd welcome the return of Ogbeta to cover for Nurse's injury.

If the worst comes to the worst we could go to 4 at the back. Pretty much everywhere else needs cover/replacements more urgently than at CB (except goalkeepers) imo.

He would've been a Carlisle player before the Scunny loan but refused to drop the £2k a week demand. I know someone who was part of those negotiations, that enough for you? I know Nurse would out and what for 72 hours before town announced it, I even DM'd a couple of people.

I don’t think ‘comfortable’ is good enough. I assume Leahy is one of your 5 - as I said earlier, he is not a CB and if he were drafted in there, what about the lack of balance created in midfield? Similarly, Cotterill’s teams are set up with three at the back. Your suggestion of a back four just doesn’t feature in his thinking (other than occasional tactical changes within games). There have been endless comments on here about the small size of the squad, players out of position, the bench not even full etc, etc. If two of your 4 (or 5 including Leahy) were out we would have no cover at all at the back, not even Kade Craig (injured).

I struggle to remember a time where Leahy has had a bad game at CB. He is good in the air, quick and has good positioning. The only issue with playing Leahy at CB is that we cant play him elsewhere. We clearly need reinforcements but I would much rather bring in a midfielder than another CB. No club in the league will have 6 first team ready CB's on the books. For us to be in trouble at CB we would need 4 of the 5 players to be injured which is very unlikely. The fact we have no fit full backs (other than Leahy but he is a mainly a midfielder in my book now) and Strikers that are not up to standard is a much bigger issue and one that I expect SC to be focusing on.
