I've seen a few Carlisle fans complaining about the ref and Simpson said it was a poor performance by him (although did say it wasn't the reason they lost). The only time I've seen officials mentioned was the offside not given for their goal, did we benefit from him last night?

Did anyone get a print at home ticket to work on the scanners last night? Long queues at the turnstile due to them not scanning. It was the same at the friendlies. Card tickets seemed to be working and season tickets worked ok for me on Saturday. The club really need to get this system sorted.

They seemed to think, wrongly, that it wasn’t a foul on Udoh for the free kick that led to our first goal.

I wish it was laughable. He's on £2,000 a week. Are you guessing or listening to rumours?

Really interesting post match comments on pyke by Cotterell! To elaborate. Cotterill was very critical of Pyke going out in loan last season apparently on the insistence of his agent and Father. He said he would have got far more game time and experience if he’d remained here.

I trust the BBC reports 100%. If they say, "Marco Marosi got down well at the feet of Dan Udoh", it must be true. Dan can count himself lucky Marosi didn't get up and elbow him.
Any road up, it's encouraging to get more of the ball and plenty of shots away. I'm not too bovvered about the League Cup, I'll bet Carlisle lost money in the competition, Simpson seems to have put a decent team together, but it's a chance for our strangers to get used to each udder. Don't forget, we've still got Elliott and Aiden to come back yet, so I'll cut the team some slack until mid September. Any points we get until then I'll take as a bonus.
I'm expecting the defence to be as tight as a gnat's chuff as they get used to playing as a unit. Dunkley has an excellent chance of taking over as my favourite player. I liked his attitude right from his fust interview.

Quick thoughts on last nights game albeit through squinted eyes in the first half:
Pitch looked even smaller than on Saturday - it obviously wasn't but why on earth have we done that ? Marosi found it difficult enough to keep his kicks in last season. You would think that there was some logic like utilising Nurse's long throw - but again, not used.
We have no discernible tactics at all in match play and the players are making it up as the go along. That said we are clearly working on set pieces as the short corner giving Pyke the shot showed; and Leahy's free kick was inch perfect. Having Bloxham come back to provide defensive when we have a corner I just did not understand.
Pyke played well - he showed some nice touches and looked to be positive with the ball. He deserves a medal for his attitude and thick skin - I think everybody wants him to do well.
Moore is not comfortable at all in midfield - I'm sure that Cotterill will persist and I hope that he is right, but from Saturday and more so last night, I can just not see it. Puts in some good tackles but not got an eye for distribution and he gets pulled out of position leaving big gaps.
Shipley - he looks to be a confidence player and gets visibly frustrated - playing him as WBL I just cannot understand. He was awol for much of the match and didnt look for the ball; but when the ball came to him he showed glimpses of being good.
Bayliss - put in some good tackles last night and distributed the ball well, looked to have more gas in his tank than on Saturday.
Udoh - that was a quality finish and showed flashes of being the difficult striker to handle that he was last season; if we lose him we will struggle.

Positives for me: - Pyke was one of the few players who came out of the game with any credit last night. Him and Leahy. - We won! - Good game to play around with team selection and tactics. Negatives: - I thought some of our distribution from defence was woeful. We look so much better when we actually play football on the ground on this lovely pitch of ours! We bring players like Bayliss into the game more and he looks like he can find a defence splitting pass with ease.

Looking at the highlights this morning was actually fun. Decent enough goals from us. Two awful ones to give away though. Possible offside for the first goal but Moore not picking up his man and allowing an easy finish is shocking defending. The second goal is an error from Dunkley, who aside from that was decent though. Just seems the way if you play wingbacks and your CBs make errors they'll get punished as there's no cover. The wingbacks are still trotting back into defensive position from attacking and/or aren't as good defensively as a fullback.

i expected us to lose so the win was a bonus from comments on hte forum we were por in the first half and looked better after a change in personel. how was the midfield ? it seems to be our weak area and that is a problem as a half decent team will control the midfield and dominate the game. the posatives we scored some goals and we got a win.

Its a pity we couldnt start the season with a full strength team but confident we will have a mid table side with a fully fit Udoh, Obrien and Bennett. Agree with others that Bloxham would benefit from a loan spell with a League 2 club although looking at Carlisle last night the strikers they had were a cut above Bloxham.

I really do hope that Moore can grow into this new unaccustomed role that he is being asked to play. At the moment he looks at 6s and 7s. I'm surprised that SC has not brought in a defensive midfielder, either permanent or on loan.

Was a good game yesterday and great weather, would love more like that over the next few weeks.
Think people are getting a bit over excited about Pike though. He moght have a career as an old fashioned right winger but he's defensively suspect at times and clueless in front of goal.

It was a bang average 6/10 performance, people are just getting excited because his previous have been 3/10. Ironically he could've lined up against us last night had his wage demands dropped in January.

Will come in and cover several positions due to limited and small squad but unlikely to give genuine competition to first team players. But I guess he's done well given most opinions of him and few expecting him to still be here. That being said, if Cotterill had recruited more adequately, would he be playing?

Dunkley MOTM for me, he won everything and scored the winner. Solid. Closely followed by Pyke, who played on the right first half then swapped with Shipley onto the left for the second half, full of running, winning headers and putting in the challenges. He's like a different player!
Marosi had a few shakey moments. Still not sure how Carlisle scored their second...it was so so so easy for them. Dacosta's crossing is Championship stuff, and Udoh's goal was really really well taken.
Loads of positives from today. I think Caton got on too for a bit? The ref falling on his arse was the highlight haha.
