First game of the season, and the pitch is not fit for play due to being heavily used by Egg chasers. Having seen a picture of it, it made me think that the 15 a side game could comfortably be played on a specially prepared pitch similar to those used for Beach Volleyball. The pitch needs relaying but surely won’t be playable for a few weeks.

I heard wasps are having big problems off the pitch, great opportunity for a buyer to buy the stadium and coventry fc all in one swoop

Wasps are deep in financial s**t so I don’t see them wanting or being able to spend any money on improving the playing surface and in any case it seems fit for jolly old rugger. I guess we should be thankful that they are no longer at Wycombe because if they were, we might have a free Saturday at the end of this week.

Havnt Coventry been in the mire ever since they moved from Highfield Road. Would hate to be a Coventry fan these last 15/20 years, such a shambles.

How many chances do they get to get the pitch playable before it becomes a real issue?

Wait until it starts raining in December, then it will be really unplayable.

Recent years have been successful with being back in the Championship and back at the Ricoh. From my understanding this current situation is due to the Commonwealth games using their ground so hardly an ongoing issue

Highfield road saw about 20 years of staying in what is now the Premier league. I'd say that was much more the most succesful than in recent times where they have had to beg other clubs to host their matches in other towns and cities miles away from Coventry. Should never have moved from Highfield, Jimmy Hill must have been turning in his grave.

You can re turf a pitch and play on it in under 10 days so would imagine now Commonwealth Games is finished it will get done smartish.

I was at the Stadium for the Rugby 7s and it didn't look good then. However 7s isn't really that rough on the pitch as you don't have scrums like in the 15s game.
If anything caused the issue it was probably the Rammstein and Killers concerts held at the back end of May and June respectively.

Wasps need to sell the stadium to who should be the rightful owners, and then they need to bugger off back to London… what are they doing there in the first place? It’s not their territory.

Not sure of the ongoing situation, but didn’t all or part of it belong to Coventry City Council?

Not sure of the ongoing situation, but didn’t all or part of it belong to Coventry City Council? I believe it was half owned by the council and a local charity, then they made the bizarre decision to sell the stadium to Wasps rather than CCFC, this then resulted in a lot of conflict between Wasps and CCFC which has resulted in them leaving the stadium twice for Northampton and Birmingham… the bizarre thing was that CCFC owned Highfield Road so not sure how they have got into this situation of being tenants at the Ricoh/CBS arena.

All to do with CCFC owners SISU not paying rent and running the club badly, I am told.

But Wasps owner Derek Richardson told The Times on Friday that growing rumours that the club is set to go into administration are not true.Nailed on to happen then. Wasps must be in some difficulty otherwise you would think they would have resolved this right after the first game was cancelled. Can only think they just don't have the money available to do so. Its been a while since we last discussed Coventry but I think the reason the club were sidelined in the ownership of the ground was because of the relationship between the owners, the Arena and Wasps. In that if Coventry City were to become owners or part owners they had to agree to drop some demands or legal action against the Arena or Wasps? Something about match day revenues? Something like that anyhow. Been an absolute mess since they left the old ground anyhow, that's for sure.

Lovely stadium, the Ricoh. But we have an adequate stadium, and it's ours. Know which situation I prefer.

Be interesting to see what "solution" has been found short of Coventry moving to ground share with someone for a time while the pitch is related.
