Darren "Polly" Perkins sadly passed away aged 53 very recently. Darren was a Riversider, a season ticket holder of 25+ years and a thoroughly nice bloke above all.
Polly was well known on the darts and dominoes scene around Shrewsbury as well as the pub scene around Belle Vue & Coleham as well as the town centre.
Polly's family are hoping (after a failed attempt with the club) that all town fans will join in a minutes applause in the 53rd minute as a show of respect for the passing of Polly.

Yes I was shocked when I heard Last spoke to him at Sunderland I think, he was a great lad, such a shock and so quick after finding out he was ill, life can be so unfair
RIP Polly

That’s very sad and too young. I didn’t know him I don’t think but I will be joining in the applause.

Yes I was shocked as well. A nice guy and good footballer memories as a team mate during his Corbett Arms days in the mid to late 1980’s decade. RIP Polly

Well that's put a dampener on the new season. Football is just a game, lives are for real. I think it was Marvin Gaye who sang a song with the words, "Only the good die young". I'll notify the people I sit by, so they know what's it's about. I hope it's not true about the club, because if it is, it's a pretty s**t show from them. I often think loyalty is a one way thing with our club. It's something you could rely on Ian Whitfield for.
RIP, Polly, you obviously brought joy to many lives.
Our condolences to the family and friends,
John & Chris. xx

According to posts on the Shrewsbury Town FC Facebook Group the club are supporting this now; picture on scoreboard etc.

Good of the club to endorse this.
Hopefully now we'll see less criticism of the club and in future give them the opportunity and time to do what I'm sure they would have done anyway.

He looks a real jolly person in that photo. Well don the club. I guess these things do take time to organise to be fair.

Going to jump right in with both feet here, I respect Martinshrew's views and posts. But I think his original post highlights the power of words and is the sort of wording that, in other contexts, and by other posters could start the demise of a thread.
Perhaps "Polly's family are hoping (after a failed attempt with the club) that all town fans will join in a minutes applause in the 53rd minute as a show of respect for the passing of Polly" might have been worded "Polly's family are hoping (and the club have been approached to assist) that all town fans will join in a minutes applause in the 53rd minute as a show of respect for the passing of Polly"?
No disrespect to Martinshrew intended.
At this sad time, the club are doing their bit in memoriam and I am sure all fans all around the stadium will pay their respects. Gone far too young, RIP.
