Some Northern Premier League near me are charging £9.

Club signing better players on better money in the expectation of much better results. It's what I wanted and I'm happy to pay more in support of my club. Conversely, no way the ground is going to get full, so could try a reduced rate and get more people in and end up making more money.
I'm sure there's a pent up demand to see the exciting new signings, but a reluctance to pay £12 to watch a friendly.

Well 1500 @ £12 = £18,000 Or 1800 @ £10 = £18,000 Cant see another 300 turning up (or not) by a small matter of £2 tbh.

I’m sure the club do their market research. I’m sure if they charge £5 they probably get the same number as if they charge £12. I don’t go to friendly games as they don’t excite me. If I did I’d like to think that extra £2 would help The club break even or make a profit on the game.

If I did I’d like to think that extra £2 would help The club break even or make a profit on the game. They don't do any market research beyond looking at how many they expect to show up, how much it costs to put the game on, and then solve for the price to charge. If you think that they are considering factors like the price elasticity of demand, the impact of closing the west stand, the possibility of making more money through making car park spaces available, the long term impact of offering free tickets to under12s accompanied by adults, etc; you'd be greatly overestimating the commercial intelligence of the club. This is a club who haven't managed to sort the shirt for next season yet and yet have managed to keep an internet based outlet going that was embarrassing 10 years ago.

It's basic economics that you'd want 1800 fans paying less than 1500 fans paying more to use the above example. Bar receipts if it's a hot day, buffet, merch sales.
And if they combined the first friendly with the release of the new shirt then it would be quids in for everyone.
But for some reason that's too much to ask.

Seems about right to me Telford v Shrewsbury for £10, Shrewsbury v Cardiff and Burnley for £12.
