I must say the interviews for the new signings have been atrociously dull. The same questions for each player, so unimaginative. Good signings though.

good to get them both confirmed publicly. Might stop a few moaners about lack of action!

As suggested " dacosta is Steve Cotterill's first defensive signing of the season his presence could free up Elliott Bennett to move into midfield throughout the season".
Seems a slightly unusual thing to write up about a new signing. Definitely more midfield numbers than at times last season now though!

Coventry have the option to recall the player in January. Think more or less every loan contract will have this built in - gives them the power if the move not gone as planned. It's just not always possible the other way round though as we saw from Cosgrove.

We seem to have gotten used to the idea of having one player per position. It would be nice to see some genuine competition for places.

It's just not always possible the other way round though as we saw from Cosgrove. it means we are weak in negotiating loan deals as the 2 clubs can agree on anything it seems we'll take anything coventry have spare, feels like those who hang around the girl doing the last reductions in the supermarket and grabbing anything they can

Welcome Julien - looks like he has the athleticism and the passing skills needed for the wing-back role. Bennett had to play an awful lot of games last season so this will ease the load for him and enable him to cover in midfield when necessary.

I’m not sure why the recall clause is automatically seen as a problem or characterised as yet more poor action by management.
If Dacosta has a blinding six months in a team riding high in L1, then we won’t have any trouble attracting a replacement, should Coventry want him back.
If he’s mediocre and we are sitting in mid-table or worse, then we might be glad to send him back and it will look like a prudent negotiation.
Speculation one way or the other is pointless until we have actually seen him play for Salop.
I also don’t care how many ex-Coventry players we sign if they do the business. There’s a lot to be said for signing players who already know each others’ game.

If he does well for us, they might want to do that and at least get a small transfer fee, rather than have him leave in summer when his contract runs out. That would seem like sensible business to me.

But as DaCosta won't have played for Coventry it wouldn't be an issue.

There’s a lot to be said for signing players who already know each others’ game. It didn't say there is a recall clause both ways though. We are probably paying all or most of his wages so why would Coventry take him back if they didn't have a taker to at least do the same. It could be similar issue that was with Cosgrove last season. think it was fairly clear town didn't want him but they couldn't send him back. In the end it was only agreed as Wimbledon agreed to take over his loan deal, but otherwise we may have been stuck with him. Ultimately the benefits should always rest with the club that hold his contract - which town don't.

I remember Ryan Giles being recalled by Wolves screwed us over, but at least with this one we know that there’s Bennett who played the whole season capably.
Must admit I know little about this signing, but he’ll have to be good to displace Bennett.
