Am I missing something or has there not been a statement to say that town cancelled the game because or the Qatari regime's position on homosexuality? Secondly, if it turned out that actually it was Qatar that didn't want to play because of the rainbow armband, would the professionally offended crew still believe it's town fans that are the "snowflakes"?Is this confirmed?

No it's not- my point is that we don't know why it was actually cancelled and it could just as easily be the opposition decision.

Ah just that I suggested the same and thought it might have been confirmed…… My personal belief is that after talking to Proud Salopeans and compromising with a rainbow arm band, someone at the club reminded them of the recent drive to be inclusive to all especially making females more welcome… The Her Game too campaign and the appointment of a female SLO who’s been very vocal on inclusivity for women perhaps trumped the LBGTQ situation (although referred to in their statement)

And for example, STFC progress to the 3rd Round of the FA Cup
Shrewsbury Town v. Newcastle United
Long piece of string this.

What a load of virtue-signalling nonsense by a member of one the most venal, hypocritical and corrupt sporting organisations to be found anywhere on the planet (FIFA/UEFA/FA/EFL) Take your pick.
I'm sure the 'Open Training Sessions' with 'fan participation' will hone the squad's skills to the highest competitive level.

If we've called this one off, I can't see how anybody from Proud Salopians could have a weekend in Newcastle and enjoy a third round tie? I'll await their statement if such a game is drawn.

As with many things today, the small tail continues to wag the large dog. I've no problem with Proud Salopians stance, providing they're consistent in their views moving forwards: - Don't watch Man City, Newcastle, Barcelona etc - Don't watch the World Cup - Release a statement condemning the club if were due to play any club with an overseas owner from a country where homosexuality is illegal/punishable. Perfectly happy with that if they continue with the above.

The club need to clarify why the game was called off for the avoidance of doubt.
If the decision was taken out of their hands then they need to confirm this to take some of the 'heat' off the Proud Salopians group who's influence - justifiably in my opinion - is being questioned.

Interesting to see the 'Salopcast' twitter profile who had no intention of going to Spain barking at people complaining about the cancelled fixture because 'the open training session is much better'. I'm pretty sure you could 'meet and greet' the team at Sundorne Castle once upon a time. Save yourself the effort of getting on a plane.

Good for you that your thinking is so entrenched you think it's some sort of gotcha to dig out an old post (evidently your speciality) that doesn't make exactly the same point that's being discussed now. We could have had a sensible debate here too, but that possibility disappeared pretty quickly. so in the space of a day youve criticised me for not digging deep enough and then for digging too deep , anyway , here's to your new principles 🍺🍺🍺 I suggested you might want to read all of the thing you were using as your source, because then you'd have seen that your assertion that Proud Salopians only got involved after the Watford cancellation was publicised was wrong. Your response: "How am I supposed to know?" Then you did what you do best; ferret around for a long forgotten discussion trying to make some irrelevant non-point. Tedious.

Their statements were measured and reasonable, unlike the torrents of garbage coming out on this thread. Do we have to keep going round in circles on this!?

Right, I'm done with this thread. It's been an absolute shocker and it seems to be getting worse, now that the usual snowflakes have decided to hold Proud Salopians responsible and call them out on anything and everything.
Considering this was described as a "meaningless kickabout" some people are getting very frothed up about the fact it isn't happening.
I'm gonna leave b&a to stew in its own bile for a while. See ya whenever, scamps.

Well next time maybe they should consider sending their measured and reasonable statements to the club and not publishing them on social media. You can guarantee Shrewsbury Town will leave the reason for cancellation "unconfirmed", which throws the spotlight onto those who publicly called out the fixture.

Perhaps this thread has ran its course and as it's author I will probably take it down shortly. Best for all involved that we move on.

I doubt very much that we will hear anything further from the club on this matter, I'm sure they regard the topic as closed and perhaps we should do likewise, best for all concerned.

Tedious. speaking of tedious , that's just the third time you've mentioned that since i admitted i hadn't opened and read the entire contents of twitter and therefore i asked exactly the same question on here that's some on there had already asked , but hey i look forward to the 4th time you mention it and yes i showed you up with your support for qatar being handed the world cup, felt good that did 👍 the only other thing I have to say to you is Do we have to keep going round in circles on this! ;

(4 times in the last 2 hours) An ironic way of marking your 10,600th post on a forum by suggesting someone else should resist posting But fill your boots, I was only responding to others who suggested it should be put out of its misery for the sake of the general health of the board.

Does seem strange that we can't arrange something with another English side considering how many seem to be making the trip. Although I appreciate Spain is of course a pretty big place. By the by, how do you mean? Are we to play Crawley?

The world is changing, just look at what Halifax are bringing in on name badges. I'm afraid "outdated" views will be in the history books pretty soon. Either embrace it or get forgotten about, we can't all be old and bitter. It's the way the World is going. Isn't it just...

Someone who asked for the tread to be closed or frozen, just suggested an alternative. BTW the Halifax name badges are an option if the employee chooses not recommended or compulsory. I have noticed and presume it’s following along the same lines people sign off with She Her Her’s and He His Him not offended but not sure why…

Oh dear, hope their fans are a bit more forgiving of their club playing a fairly meaningless friendly as a way of getting their team ready for the new season than a few Town fans are. Still we called off one against Tamworth last season without so much fuss.
