I realised much later when looking at some photos I took when I ticked off Brighton's new ground with Burnley a few years ago he was playing in Brighton side alongside Adam El Abd ... but not for very long as he got sent off quite early on in the proceedings

It's fairly common nowadays, even at our level, large number of foreign Prem/Championship dropping down the leagues, lots of foreign youngsters snapped up by Prem clubs sent out on loan and of course, an increasing number of players who were born in England but play for another country as a result of their Dad/Grandad.

Of course it wasn't always like that, and I think back and laugh at when a foreign player was linked with us or another lower as one of two things would normally happen. There would normally be a sense of excitement about an oversees signing with an assumption being they were good which of course they weren't (Gall & Nielson in the 90's are an example of that). The other one was the local reporter would put out a story about an ex Real Madrid player signing, the reality was he was a youth player, never had a pro contract, has been at a variety of clubs since and he's just been released by Barnsley.

If I hadn’t personally seen him warming up on the touchline at Fleetwood away, I would refuse to believe Grandin ever existed. Seem to remember he picked 88 as his squad number as well, but of a maverick...
