A bit of fun on the eve eve of the fixture announcement.
With Town being drawn at home for the opening fixture in six of the last seven seasons, we are probably long overdue an away fixture on 30 July (Did not realise it was that soon!)
Pick who you think we'll get drawn against on the following notable fixture dates;
Two points for each correct guess. One point if you get the right team but not the home/away.
Denote which one you think will be the opening game with a '*'
Opening game: Lincoln (A) Second game: Forest Green (H) Boxing day: Cheltenham (A) Last game of the season: MK Dons (H) Carabao Cup 1st round: West Brom (A)

Maybe Derby away for the first game and I think Ipswich at home on boxing day.

We usually have to be away on the weekend of the flower show. I'm guessing that is as usual the 1st weekend of August so we should be at home the weekend before (30 July)
Probably away as usual on Boxing Day.
Two questions - 1. Have we ever played a competitive fixture in July before (not counting the Shropshire Senior Cup here). And 2 - when was the last season we were home on Boxing Day?

Good point and one I'd never realised before. The teams placed 18th and 19th in last seasons EPL get a bye to Round 2.

Fleetwood A on a Tuesday night in January or February seems somewhat inevitable.

Would take those games all day long. I hate away Boxing Day fixtures, no trains run Off the top of my head I can only think of 2 or 3 home Boxing Day games since we moved grounds, think at least one was called off for weather too. Coupled with the fact that in recent years a 'local' away game for Boxing Day has generally still been a fair distance to travel (Wigan, Fleetwood, Accrington etc) and I'm firmly in the hoping for a home game camp.

We usually play Pompey either home or away, in first couple of games.
I’ll guess at Wycombe away for first game.

Out of interest, and given the usual request due to the Flower show, can anyone tell us last time Town started a season with an away fixture?

We did at Leicester when Steve thug Walsh hit David Geddis Shocking assault that one was. To think he got a 9 game ban (I think it was) and we lost Geddis for over half the season. Cost us our place in Div 2 as we had no one else who could score goals.

I still find it amusing that the club request to play away on flower show weekend after all these years… would it really make any difference if we played at home or not, does the flower show need to be heavily policed or something?

Think it's more to do with car parking availability in and around the town. Not sure if its still relevant now we are out of town but I think our car park is used for flower show parking ( )
