I know many scholars of the game are still debating how comfortably we'd have won the Euros if we'd had Ollie Watkins up front instead of Kane. Italy would have been 5 down by half-time.

Give me the stats for the euro final against Italy, where it countsπ€£π€£π€£π€π€π€ππ What were Liverpool, or Salah's stats in the Champions League final, where it counts? By your logic, they are a rubbish team, Salah is not good enough at the top level (only scored a penalty across three Champions League finals π€£π€£πππ) and should be benched for the far superior Minamino.

Anyway, back onto England. The Kane & Sterling points are interesting ones, Kane was disappointing in the Euro's and was largely anonymous the other night, however you seriously can't consider not playing him considering his goalscoring record. It's similar for Sterling, at times I wonder how he makes it into the England team as on occasions he can't do the basics right, he aimlessly runs down blind alleys, gives the ball away cheaply and at times his finishing his embarrassing. However, he has a decent goalscoring record and has scored some crucial goals
I'm sure I read/heard that after Kane & Sterling, the next highest England goalscorer is Maguire. That tells you how reliant we are on the two of them.

I think this could be a crucial year for Grealish. He certainly looked top class for Villa where he was the undisputed top dog in a midtable team, but he had a difficult first season for Man City where he is just one of many top players. I think he will learn from that and especially learn to play his first touch quicker, because fast passing and fluid movement is what makes City such a great team. Rodri also had an average first season for them but is now one of their best players. You could certainly reasonably argue that Grealish has been underused for England, especially because his style should be suited to many games where the build-up is slow and he can use his skills to beat a man and create a chance. It will no doubt be hot in Qatar and the skilful ball players like him should be suited by that. International football is often not like the helter-skelter of the Premier League and there tend to be few chances in a lot of games and it takes a special sort of forward to thrive in that environment. Kane and Sterling are two who have been there and done it and both deserve our respect and I hope Grealish can join them in that and prove himself at the World Cup.

I know you like to highlight Ricketts 'achievements' but 2nd best finish in 40 years is a new one it's been mentioned many times , if you go looking try under the carpets π It was 25 years according to Ricketts/his agent/his PR team/the LMA. I'm not sure where 40 years has come from.

yes i meant 30 years ,never mind who the managers have been it's quite a depressing fact really that since we dropped out of the 2nd tier we finished 11st in the first season which was disappointing and apart from the hurst season 15th is the best we've managed

Haven't yet seen the highlights yet but we did wonder whether Kane was offside as the German lad looked to be directly behind him when he made the foul. Just one thing on that, was it played in by an England player (or did a German player play it or get a touch on the ball through to Kane)? Thought it was a pretty dull affair for the most part but in Southgate's defense, played at the end of a long season and the Germans looked as jaded as we did. The first half was pretty much even. Thought the Germans looked the better of the two teams in the second half until we bought Grealish on and that evened things up again. So a pretty crap game but even so, my son's first England game, we didn't lose and we saw England score (added bonus it was Kane who got the goal). As for the fans, someone mentioned to us last night that the one fan who was arrested twice for the smoke bombs had let them off in his hotel room. But very much like most England games, there were pockets of England fans around the centre who were drinking the place dry and singing the usual songs but easy to avoid and settle down with other fans for a decent chat about England and club football (which in part is what makes following England enjoyable). Took advantage of the 9 Euro ticket that we have here at the moment but getting there and back was an absolute nightmare. Only just managed to get back for the Kickers game last night but thankfully we did make it (and a 3-0 win in the promotion play off). So despite Deutsche Bahn's best efforts, a very enjoyable couple of days watching football. One more to go until the season is complete, we have Eintracht Trier away next Tuesday.

Currently sat in Stuttgart airport. Plane delayed by an hour ! i think the Germans must have underestimated how popular the 9β¬ ticket would be, especially with kids on holiday. Train to Munich on Monday packed and it broke down at Augsburg ! Arrived Munich an hour late. Better journey back up today, but Stuttgart station is a bit of a nightmare as well. With better planning I could have come up here yesterday and seen Kickers game, but nice day wandering round the Englischer Garten in Munich

With better planning I could have come up here yesterday and seen Kickers game, but nice day wandering round the Englischer Garten in Munich Met a number of England fans who had flights out of Stuttgart yesterday but they missed them because of the trains. They were flying out this morning instead. On Tuesday we were twice asked to leave the train out in the middle of nowhere and wait for another, that added a fair bit on. Yesterday we were doing OK until the train stopped in Gunzberg. Thankfully the DB staff were kind enough to let us onto an IC train (with our 9 Euro ticket) into Ulm otherwise I think I would have missed the game yesterday. I'm pretty sure I saw it reported that DB did warn that the ticket would mean overcrowding, delays and cancellations. I wouldn't say this was "forced" upon them but I'm not sure they were all in on it. I think they knew it would cause issues. I think so anyhow. If that was indeed the reason for the problems. Safe journey onwards anyhow. At least you're on the last leg...π
