Every Tory MP literally voted against a windfall tax on energy companies just a week ago. What can possibly have changed their minds so quickly .....? [Look, over there!!!!!]

If we are going to have a Conservative party that eventually realises they have to adopt Labour policies because they are the right thing to do, we may as well just put in a Labour government.

I know you're trying to fish, but Labour have been calling for this for months and been told it would scupper investment.
As always a welcome but temporary relief, I actually move into my new house in August so it's good timing for me.

Odd comment? Labour have been putting forward this sort of policy for weeks.

Great to see, respect to Boris and team for putting Joe Bloggs first.
Any old moron can witter on from the sidelines, so itβs good to see significant improvements on the rather sloppier proposals made by the opposition.

If you're a pensioner, you get Β£300.
If you're on means tested benefits you get Β£650.
Β£400 off energy bills for everyone. (edited)

Though, If crafty old Sunak hadn't suspended the triple lock, pensioners would have had a rise of around 6% this April. If mean old Sunak had not clawed baxk the Β£20 pounds a week Covid Universal Benefit increase, both groups would be having the money he's promising now already.
Why do individuals receiving disability benefits only get Β£150?
Is this Β£400 additional to the Β£200? Or has he just made the Β£200 non-repayable and added another Β£200?

Could think of nothing worse right now than having Starmer (or heaven forbid Steptoe) leading the country. Find somebody worthy of leading the party then fair enough but neither of those two clowns thank you.

Long may it continue - how about some of those insulating Britain ideas Labour put forward next?

Take away the froth and the Β£300 one off payment to pensioners only replaces the triple lock rise they should have had in April. And, being a one off payment, it won't be consolidated into future pension rises like the triple lock increase would have been. Sunak just can't curb his devious nature can he?

And still no effort to raise benefits and pensions now to combat the rise in inflation. Instead, it's one off payments which obviously won't be consolidated into next April's increases. Still, a small mercy is that he said that the Triple Lock will be reinstated - for now.

And the elephant in the room which Sunak has made no attempt whatsoever to address is the freezing of personal tax allowances until 2026, against which the projected reduction of 1p in income tax in the future is woefully inadequate.
