Thought I'd do a bit of a quick straw poll to see where other clubs are with regards to their pre-season itineraries. In terms of the number of confirmed pre-season games as of today; Port Vale 2 MK Dons 2 Cheltenham 6 Charlton 4 Lincoln 6 (or 9 if you include XI - mostly against local sides) Fleetwood 2 Bolton 5 (or 9 including XI) Please don't ask me to find out how many of these clubs have managed to announce and/or selling their new shirts though. Sod it, I gave in. Surprisingly of the above list only Lincoln and Port Vale have announced their new kit for the forthcoming season. Bizarrely Fleetwood and Charlton's online club shops are empty or closed down.

I've seen on Facebook that someone contacted Brian Caldwell and he had confirmed that the Coventry game in Spain has been cancelled and they were looking for a replacement fixture. Given that a pre-season tour in Spain had piqued the interest of some to coincide with a summer holiday, why does everything we do have to be clouded by secrecy/uncertainty? Other clubs openly invite their fans on pre-season tours abroad and done correctly the club could make some money offering a package deal for those interested but once again it feels like we couldn't organise a get together in a brewery Come on it's so glaringly obvious why we arent playing anyonevout there. Its because we cant field a full team of 11 at the minute. Signings needed quickly. We have a Head of Recruitment, god knows what we would be like if we didnt....

I'm normally fairly relaxed when it comes to the summer and will shout down fans when they are panicking about lack of signings/news about a week after the season finished. However, last summer was a shambles and fans are rightly nervous we are heading down the same route in terms of squad size, friendlies, general pre season preparation and the kit. Yes we can say there is time but we said that last season and we saw the implications of a poor pre-season by our diabolical start to the season.
In terms of the squad/transfers, yes what David Longwell is saying makes sense but we heard this 12 months ago when we were told we would only bring in the right player, not bring in players for the sake of it. My question is why are we struggling to find the right players and/or struggling to attract the right players to the club?
In terms of the kit, Umbro revealed their kit for Ipswich last week, yes they are clearly a bigger side than us but they are still a L1 side and I'd like to think that we wouldn't be far too behind them in the pecking order. It's been 7 weeks since the season finished, that's 7 weeks of no income from football matches and thats 7 weeks they could have had income from new kits, replica gear, etc. Instead we have a near empty club shop
As for pre season friendlies, as someone else has said, it genuinely baffles me why the club seem so reluctant to tell fans when/if there are any overseas games, there have been similar things in the past under previous managers, I'm not going to suggest thousands of fans will go over but I'm sure there would be plenty who would fancy a holiday in the sun and taking in a Salop match. But putting the overseas stuff to one side, the 2 pre-season's under SC have been bizarre and I'd love to understand why he's going with the 'minimalist' approach.

It’s got the feel of another farcical pre-season with zero lessons learned. Supporters won’t be so forgiving a second time round if the season starts as disastrously as last years. News on the tour? Nothing. News on the new kit? Nothing. Signings? None in a month. Interviews with manager, chief exec or chairman? You must be joking. The blame lies at the door of the chairman. Consistently poor appointments to sit below him. Brian is failing us, and it's all on the chairman's watch. Ultimately the buck stops with the chairman who is long past his sell by date. I respect what he did, but I certainly don't respect what he's doing.

I'd like a kit and some players, but there never was a tour was there? They said they were training and mooted the possibility of organising a game over there. If anything they've over shared with us in this instance, rather than been too secretive, given that the possibility hasn't turned into anything.

I remember the pre-season before the famous Hurst season. I dont normally bother doing the driving for friendlies but I did for the Wolves pre-season game. I remember thinking we are going to have a good season after we beat a strong looking Wolves team. In contrast we were seriously undercooked at the start of last season and I hope we are not going to fall into the same trap again.

I agree 100% I still have just over a month left to moan about last season too ;-) For those who subscribe to ifollow take a listen to Cotterills latest interview where he explains about 3 pre season friendlies - I’ve has a small squad and they’ve all got more minutes in or will have by the end of the Exeter game than if he’d had 5/6 pre season games with a bigger squad. It’s called managing his players and they’re being pushed that little bit harder in training to compensate - he’s certainly not worried about them not being ready for the Burton game and as SC rightly states, pre season results etc means nothing I'm willing to accept that and admit I'm wrong later but reserve the right to moan about it for the next 12 months if it backfires ;-)

You could tell we were in for a decent season under Hurst given the results of the friendlies. The foundations are put in place before we kick off, not as the transfer window closes when we might have dropped anything up to 18 points.

The replies are comedy gold, surely the club see them? 😂
