Perhaps the National league can help show the way here. After the Wrexham-Grimsby game (one of the best and most dramatic games I have seen all season) I did not see any attempt by the jubilant Grimsby fans (or the disappointed Wrexham fans for that matter) to get on the pitch and the Grimsby players were able to celebrate properly in front of their fans. Alternatively there was a pitch invasion at Solihull, I think it comes down to individual clubs & their local police force and how they handle the games. Anyway, now the season is over I suspect that we will go back to normal in that pitch invasions are a rarity, no one talks about them until the end of next season when there once again is a debate about how pitch invasions are increasing and are a blight on our game.

I missed the Solihull game and perhaps in the Grimsby game it was due to the fact their numbers were limited to 1200 but I still think they set a good example by not even attempting to invade and they were able to enjoy the celebrations with the players all the better for that.

When was the away end moved at the racecourse? It used to be behind the goal so I was surprised to see the Grimsby fans housed in the main stand.

am I allowed to say that is sickening and they are just animals, flares might look pretty but they have no place inside a football stadium, especially not in the hands of a total idiot then again, maybe they were just local youths

Just a thought. Why don’t fans at International fixtures celebrate in this manner?
The scenes at the Cardiff City stadium were incredible on Sunday night just like they were at Wembley after England beat Germany last year.
The celebrations with the players are extended l, everyone is safe and everyone gets to partake (apart from the losers….).
Odd really.

It's very hard, nigh on impossible on a large scale, to pitch invade at Wembley. Point taken generally though.

It’s a bit of shock to find myself agreeing with Simon Jordan

If this happened in 2019, we'd be laughing and probably saying it was nice to see such a passionate club owner.
The reality is it's not the pitch invasion per se but the trend towards individuals carrying out assaults on players that happened at the back end of last season. Sad, but i get why clubs feel they just can't accept the risk now.
Bit unfair to malign the tradition of the pitch invasion itself though, which is something people have done to celebrate at football for decades. We wouldn't have arguably the most iconic piece of English language sports commentary of all time without it and many people's fondest memories of football will involve celebrating on the pitch.
