The politics of Northern Ireland! If the DUP don't want to play, personally, I would give Northern Ireland to Ireland. A united Ireland. Just sick of troubles, squables, fake borders in the sea, let's just be be rid of Northern Ireland.

The problem is we have four entities, the UK mainland, Northern Ireland, The Republic of Ireland and the EU.
There is a border border between the UK mainland and the EU.
There can't be a border between the UK mainland and Northern Ireland. There can't be a border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
There can't be a border between the Republic of Ireland and the EU.
Anyone got a plan? Answers on a postcard to B. Johnson, 10 Downing Street, London, SW1A 2AA.
The Northern Ireland Protocol was negotiated and signed by Johnson as part of his 'oven ready Brexit', but now it isn't fit for purpose. I wonder who we should blame?
The Tories won an election on getting Brexit done and credit where credit is due, they ran a good one policy campaign, but now that the DUP aren't the Billy Big Bollox that they were and the tide is turning in Northern Ireland the Tories and the DUP are blaming Sinn Fein and the EU.
Many people have been concerned about the Northern Ireland question for a long time, even during the referendum campaign, but were shouted down with accusations of 'project fear'.

Boris ****ed it up by agreeing to the Norther Ireland Protocol which was never going to be acceptable to both sides…. There’s no political answer that fits in with The Goid Friday Agreement that’s acceptable to the EU…. All sides realise its importance to maintain peace it’s a mess. Can someone remind me, have Sinn Fein ever refused to take up their seats in Parliament? Neils got it spot on.

No point sending it to Johnson - it will get filed with the Sue Gray report, the Russian report and countless others that seem to have got lost.

Do you have an opinion, rather than just attempting to shoot down another poster's views?

I've got a wild opinion, let the people and politicians of Northern Ireland decide the future of Northern Ireland.

The problem has been there from the moment May's government interpreted the brexit vote as meaning the UK must leave the single market, without seriously considering any alternatives.
Unfortunately, those in power in the UK didn't take it seriously and preferred to kick the can down the road while they "got brexit dun".
The road turned out to be a cul de sac and we still don't have a solution.

I think eventually the UK will have to let it go, back to a united Ireland. The unionists will just have to deal with it. There will be unrest as there would be anywhere in the world. But I don't see anything of value in NI for britain, just a headache and having to babysit the MLAs everytime one doesn't get their way.

Yes, myself, I think it's a good time now: If there was violent action to try to get it we wouldn't be able to give in to it. If Ireland was united then they would be in the EU, which they voted for. The DUP currently refusing to take part at the moment, so let's see if they want to take part if a referendum on joining Ireland is proposed.

I'm sure the Unionists will just 'deal with it' like the Republicans have only recently started to get over what happened over a hundred years ago.
Next on the agenda - giving Ukraine back to the Russians.
Don't worry Stormont, the EU or NATO - Staffordshrew and Belfastshrew have got it from here.
World peace is only around the corner I'm sure.

I've got a wild opinion, let the people and politicians of Northern Ireland decide the future of Northern Ireland. due to the catholics steadly having a lager % of the population of northern ireland if they do have a referendum in 5 years time as Sinn Fein promised then it will unify. www.scotsman.com/news/politics/nicola-sturgeon-and-sinn-feins-michelle-oneill-hold-face-to-face-talks-3702436"Nicola Sturgeon is to hold face-to-face talks with Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill today."

Excellent. I'm sure the DUP don't want it - so they better start participating in government then. It's up to them.
Update: Later in the day, Nicola Sturgeon tests positive for Covid-19.

Northern Ireland has gone through so much and it would be nice if cool heads and common sense could prevail .
