I remember going to Grimsby late 70’s the weather was that bad I stayed in the pub with quite a few others…. The cold wind at Cleethorpes is bad enough on a sunny day

You're easily pleased... Not been to the soul less looking Northamptons new ground but I cant imagine it's much of an atmosphere. Back when I was going away Mansfield, Burslum and Swindon were all dire away days. not sure what you actually expect following a league 1 side on and off the pitch. I'll accept anything that gives a half decent day out, and if town win its an unexpected bonus. I much prefer being easily pleased than a cantankerous miserable old fossil ;-) One day you will be a cantankerous miserable old fossil young man.

Vale vs Mansfield.
Excuse me if I take a lie down to avoid the excitement.
At least that should be 1 of the 4 relegation places accounted for next season though.

I also remember getting a soaking at Mansfield when we had to stand on the open side. Along with Macclesfield and a night game at Exeter, probably the wettest I have been at an away game. 4 nil on a Friday night under Jake if memory serves me right? Traffic was horrendous pre/post match, a very depressing evening Correct, then two weeks later another pasting, 4-1 at Posh and the following day Jake was invited to Roland’s house, where he was relieved of his duties. To quote Jake afterwards, “ I was pretty sure he wasn’t inviting me for lunch”.

First ten minutes were decent enough. Vale missed a sitter, Swindon looked to have a pretty decent shout for a penalty turned down and then Vale scored an off side goal (from what I could see anyhow). Other than that we then had to wait until the shootout for some drama. Fair play to the Vale keeper though, dug them out of a hole big time.
As for the pitch invasion, some footage here. You can see Swindon players having to cope with Vale fans who have come onto the pitch...

It was a much better game than the Mansfield-Northampton second leg. I think the Vale goal was just onside as the Swindon player trying to stop the cross just stuck his leg out at the last minute and played the scorer on. From what I have seen I dont expect the final between Mansfield and Vale to be a classic but I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

Mansfield or Burslum next year.
Like choosing between death by asphyxiation or being run over by a truck

They might even get a shop in the High Street again, sometime!

Are these play off matches more important than a cup match? Look at the paths of Aldershot and Shrewsbury, to some extent decided by the lottery of penalties. Where will Swindon and Port Vale's paths go now, for example?
I do hanker after replays in some, future deciding, cases.....

To be fair Aldershot did get back into the FL a few years after we beat them. Not for many seasons granted. Just at their level currently I would say, given my estimate of the size of the club over the years.

So who is going to win the big game today then? No, not the Liverpool game, nor even the Wrexham game. But the one which will actually have any bearing on us next season. Actually not bothered personally, neither are attractive in any way and which ever team wins I'd expect them to be one of the strugglers next season
