Be nice if Swindon could add another goal or two to pretty much finish Fail off.
Then if Northampton could turn the tables on Mansfield in the second leg. And then go on to stuff Swindon in the final.

Regrettably, Vale have scored.

Not even remotely interested in seeing any of these 4 go up tbh. Not a decent day out amongst them, Northampton just about the best option out of the four. At least whoever comes up probably wont set the division alight so hopefully will be fighting to stay up.

I find vale is a great little trip, few decent beers in burslem, and train options of which way to go, crewe or wolves again with options of jumping off for a couple of beers swindon is not only a poor trip but how bad do we normally play there ? Northampton, another decent trip that usually results in brum or wolves beers Mansfield, many options there too anyone but swindon for me

Not been to the soul less looking Northamptons new ground but I cant imagine it's much of an atmosphere. Back when I was going away Mansfield, Burslum and Swindon were all dire away days.

I'll accept anything that gives a half decent day out, and if town win its an unexpected bonus. I much prefer being easily pleased than a cantankerous miserable old fossil ;-)

Northampton wasnt much better but I'd prefer it to the other 3. But as I dont go now I'm only thinking of others so I'll shut up.

Not even remotely interested in seeing any of these 4 go up tbh. It is a monumentally boring foursome, I agree. Can we not have Stockport leapfrog the play off contenders?

Swindon Dave falling out of a tree, Richard Scott upsetting Steve McMahon Northampton 7-2, Ron Flowers 2 og & a 4-3, 3 sided ground Port Vale first game I saw ( v Torquay, my Dads team), lairy atmosphere, Titanic brewery Mansfield went for a pre-match drink and everyone in the pub was taller & broader than me, remembering not to support the team in blue & yellow
Every pitch tells a story

I remember Mansfield away, a night game near the end of the season 78/79 when we went up to the second tier as Champions. A largeTown following saw us gift them a very late equaliser when Jake King took a throw in near the half way line. Instead of throwing it towards their corner flag, he tried to throw it back to Ken Mulhearn. The ball didn’t reach it’s target and the gift was gratefully received and planted into our net. Many Town fans had parked in a large car park near the ground and on the way back in fading light, I had my scarf pinched and loads of STFC fans found their headlights had been smashed. Lovely bunch those miners.

Both ties are nicely set up for the second legs. It is difficult to call a winner at this stage but I have a sneaking suspicion that Northampton can put the disappointment of their last day of the full season behind them and come out on top.

Very poor standard in my opinion. Mansfield slightly better organised but Cobblers looked dreadful - couldn’t pass to feet, hanging crosses just where the keeper would want them and constantly making poor decisions. I thought the ref was poor as well.

Lovely bunch those miners. It may have been the year before when I went to Field Mill with Smithys coach, coldest day ever, stopped at Ripley on the way, everyone seemed to be drunk, lots of trouble in the ground with Mansfield lot donning the old butcher coats and cannot remember the score. I was around 16 or 17 at the time and had never experienced an away trip like this, therefore like the games against them.

Mansfield through 3-1 on aggregate v Northampton. I didn't watch either game so not entirely sure how things played out over the two legs but you did wonder what impact that last day drama would have had on Northampton. That was a real kick in the pips and then some. You just wonder whether that played a part.

I also remember getting a soaking at Mansfield when we had to stand on the open side. Along with Macclesfield and a night game at Exeter, probably the wettest I have been at an away game.

Traffic was horrendous pre/post match, a very depressing evening

That Friday night match I believe got hammered 4 - - 0. It p**sed down all night and there was Juan tree to shelter under. After a while, it didn't offer any shelter at all. I remember going to the Gents, (the only dry part of the ground for us), and there was a bloke stood in the bogs eating a pie!

Add Accrington to the list on a couple of occasions….. Of course, how could I forget? Pretty sure the air raid siren for home corners is at Lincoln, rather than Mansfield mate (although it’s been discontinued temporarily due to the Ukraine conflict). Completely agree with everything else you say though.

I thought the ref was poor as well. You are spot on with that. It was a real helter-skelter 4th division type of game with little quality on show. though you have to credit Mansfield with some great defensive blocks. The ref was worse than poor - Northampton had two clear-cut penalties turned down and Wallace's wild lunge that put Northampton's most dangerous attacker Eppiah out of the game was a red card all day long. I did not realise Akins played for Mansfield now - a player I have always admired who is surely too good for League 2 even at the age of 33.

Poor refs are pretty standard these days. I don’t know what’s going on with them but it can be seen all over the leagues.

It took the provider yonks to fix the problem. I moaned that much I got a good discount! I've had a good soaking at Exeter and Macclesfield as well. I remember going to Macc for Juan match when I was really busy. I put up a temporary fence for a client on the Saturday morning and had to dash to pick up the Bro to take him to Salop to catch the coach and hadn't had time to change. Mac had about 7 fust teamers out with injury, so it was looking good. As we left the Bro's house, a black cat strolled across the road in front of us, a sure sign of good luck. We got searched on the way in and I asked the plod if they had many marauding grandads in Macclesfield. He replied I wouldn't like it if I got a bottle on the yed. (I'm not sure if it from him or a fellow fan). It wasn't a very good search, because when I put my hand in my coat pocket, I felt something Sharpe in my finger. In my haste I'd left half a dozen large staples in there! I believe we lost 4 - 2. When we got back to the Caaaatle, my Bro asked if I was coming to the pub. I said no, I'm going to look for that ****ing cat.

I was at Mansfield and Macclesfield too. Nit to mention Brighton in the rain sitting behind a running track.
Has the cat been found yet!?
