this has been trigered by the resignation of Member of Parliament (MP) Imran Ahmad Khan, i could not seem to find a date for this but i saw a sky interview of local people and non featured are happy, whilst far from difintive with a previous majority of just over 3,000 in a traditional Labour seat is hardly a fortress especially in the current economic situation were most are feeling the pinch. unfortently things are not running so smoothly for labour . www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/politics/wakefield-by-election-14-labour-officials-resign-en-masse-over-stitch-up-selection-process-3692955"Fourteen officials running the local Labour party in Wakefield have dramatically quit in protest at a “stitch-up” selection process for the city’s Parliamentary candidate."In an official statement on behalf of the executive, Mr Jowitt said that for the past year, the local Labour party has repeatedly asked Party HQ to select a local candidate and choose someone in advance "to avoid a rushed job .We asked for local candidates, but there are none. Three prominent council and local Labour candidates, including the Deputy Council Leader, didn’t even make it onto the ‘long list’."

If this were happening under Corbyn you wouldn't be able to move for dark mutterings about entryists and Stalinism.

unfortunately things are not running so smoothly for labour . The proof will be in the pudding of course but the government's struggles not only give Starmer a sound footing against the Tories but also against the "left" of the party. Perhaps he might not have been so confident to parachute someone in from afar if Labour didn't have a very, very good chance of winning this by-election but as things stand, they do. Gives Starmer a little room to manoeuvre... “The Labour Party has changed and our priority is the voters, not obsession with internal machinations and niche political issues, and we know that Wakefield and Britain deserves better than this Tory government and that’s what we’ll set out to do in this campaign.”
“A small clique of Corbynites had held the local party to ransom. Lots of members there today aren’t just confident and looking forward to the campaign, but also the fresh start it provides.
“We’re seeing this across the country in the party: under Corbyn, many of our longstanding campaigners were bullied out or just had enough. They are coming back and new people are getting involved.”

I consider myself to be on the left, I know, shocker right, but I firmly believe that unless all wings of the party start working together the Tories will win the next election. Infighting and splits play into their hands and the right wing media will be keeping their powder dry ready to bring it up ad infinitum just as the next election is called.
All sides need to work together and learn how to compromise.

I an sure you know full well my political leanings, and whilst it may be deemed impolite to intrude upon another Party's never-ending internal arguments, I do have to admire your clearly heart-felt desire for compromise, speaking as one who is less than happy with my own party's performance in government, I think that we may be reaching that rare moment when a divided party (Labour) may win the next GE, such is the apparent disillusionment with the Conservatives - nothing to do with whatever policies Labour produces, more a matter of victory by default.

Very often the case. The Tories were in disarray in 1997, mired in sleaze, it wasn't all down to Blair having the electoral midas touch, despite what the cultists would have us believe. In 2010 Labour were carrying the can for the global financial crisis. The Tories made the charge of overspending stick, despite having pledged to stick to Labour's spending plans just before everything went tits up.

Where exactly is 'Wakefield' ? Bottom but one of the Super League, having shamefully lost to bottom club Toulouse over the weekend.
