One of the worst decisions we've ever made was to let Jacobson go when he clearly wanted to stay. Now in his 7th season with Wycombe and captains the side. Here he is putting in a tremendous goal saving tackle on the MK Dons forward. www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/competitions/league-one/12608932/jacobsons-incredible-last-ditch-tackleTwice selected in the PFA's Team of the Year, and we all know about his ability with corners and dead ball kicks. 16 yellow cards received this season though, including those awarded against him for 2 very questionable tackles in both legs of the MK Dons games.

How many left backs have the club been through since he was let go? Whilst he has been a starter for Wycombe through the last 7 seasons. Seemed baffling at the time, and even more so now.

Time and tide……….. Whalley’s release was probably age related and he is younger than JJ. We could all see how MK were targeting him and Wycombe were having to double up on the winger who was causing havoc.

Harking back to something I said on the 'What makes a legend' thread but unfortunately players even getting to 100 appearances for Shrewsbury have been few and far between over the years.
The inevitable two-year cycle of new managers, strong performers usually getting picked up by bigger clubs and the annual cull have seemingly made it difficult to keep hold of anyone other than Whalley.
It's a crying shame Jacobson got released rather than decided to move on of his own volition.

He also won the community award the season he was released. That says a lot about his character.

Who was Manager when they let Jacobson go ? At the end of Mike Jackson's caretaker reign when we went down before Micky Mellon came in. Not sure who would have made the call on releasing JJ.

Certainly agree it was a bad decision to let him go. As for the playoffs , fine margins and all that, if there had been VAR I am sure he would have been sent off in the first match. I thought Sunderland would make it through the playoffs this year and I am not going to change my mind now - their massive crowd advantage at Wembley will make it like a home game for them. Another player at wingback (now also at Wycombe) we had, I think, only on loan but should have signed is Jack Grimmer - he loved to get forward.

Who was Manager when they let Jacobson go ? ‘With Micky Mellon now in place as manager, and after discussions with Mike Jackson and Danny Coyne, the decisions have been finalised...’ 13 May 2014 Shrews Web announcing the Retained and Released list. Probably and deservedly turned out a good career move for him, Wycombe tend to keep their players - always seems quite a lot of loyalty in that club

A friend of mine who is a Wycombe season ticket holder thinks it is highly amusing when I tell him we are STILL lamenting the loss of JJ eight years on.

Quote from Gareth Ainsworth in the “I” today talking about the use of free transfers :
“Who the heck let Joe Jacobson go at Shrewsbury?”.

Who the hell let Steve Bull go at WBA? It happens, different managers have differing opinions. I can't believe united have let pogba slip for a 2nd time Pogba is out of contract and has been wanting to leave United for years. A significant number of United's fans have wanted him to go too. United's fault that they let his contract run down. Jacobson was also out of contract, wanted to stay, and was disappointed when he was released.

Bang average today. Thank the Lord in his infinite wisdom that we got rid in a timely fashion. Timely? In 2016 he was selected in League Two’s PFA Team of the Year. In November 2019 he received the League One Player of the Month Award. Jacobson was awarded the 'Players' Player' award in May 2021, voted for by the playing squad. Wiki. Over 300 League appearances for Wycombe with 36 goals and countless assists.

Too old now, as is also the case with Mark Duffy and David Perkins, who I'd hoped might one day play for Town.

Sunderland targeted him today in the first half by playing balls into the space behind him but he played reasonably well overall - it was just that Wycombe did not get enough set-pieces so his delivery was very limited.

Definitely lacking pace now and apparently opponents are targeting him. Set pieces still brilliant though, but no longer a Steve Cotterill type of target.
