I'd go electric right now, but not for £50,000 a car (for one that of a reasonable size) and not until there's green grants to have solar & batteries installed at home.
Step up any government offering subsidised solar/battery solutions and you'll likely get my vote.

before the long as more people purchase electric cars, you will get taxed on the miles you drive many moterways already have average speed camers . Sure you are right, but how are they going to sort that on rural roads and country lanes? good question i dont have a clue the other way is the MOT and get a bill based on the milegae from that.

I've got no interest whatsoever in the new fad, until (a) the cost comes down to the levels that normal people can actually afford (b) there is the infrastructure to charge them, which to my mind is still light years away. As I'm early 60s now I very much doubt I will have to be bothered with them. Sure there will be another fad out soon to take over.

Would need to be way cheaper for me. Last vehicles cost me £4k and £5k. They are perfectly fine for my usage.

For that sort of money your "EV" would probably be running on Duracell Bunny batteries or, maybe, the EV that suits your budget is not in the showroom, it's round the back, one owner, low milrage, never been raced or rallied: -

That's the sort of budget many people are quite happy with, me included. Quick look at many car sales businesses proves this. No need to spend any more for a perfectly decent vehicle. Are we looking at making motoring just something that well off people do, are we looking to force the poorer ones off the roads?

Trip over the Barmouth today. Esso station just on the way to Dolellau by pass the cheapest for petrol at 166.9, several other ones out in the sticks not much more expensive.
Still plenty taking the p**s with their ripping off the motorist games though.

Easy on the petrol, easy on the maintenance - I shall be changing the oil this week while the weather's nice.

What will Asda Shrewsbury be charging for unleaded on 24th December.
I'll go for 148.7p

I'll go for 148.7p Lots of time for various unknowns to change the dynamics once again before then. Could go down, could (very likely .....) go up again. I'll go 165.7 No doubt Asda Telford will (as usual) be 2 or 3 pence more, and the Shell stations another 3 or 4 pence more.

Been past the Maldwyn Service station today on the way to Tywyn 181.9 for diesel, the same as Asda Shrewsbury on Tuesday. Nice breeze here with temp a nice 29

Petrol at £159.9 in the little garage in Llandrinio today.
Cheapest I can find in Telford is £167.9 at the Murco station at Sutton Hill.
Amazing that a little garage can afford to sell so cheaply while in a much busier area like Telford the motorist continues to get fleeced.

Shame on Asda once again. Even the Shell stations that have ripped motorists off (at least in the Telford area) are 167.9 to Asda 169.7
Thought maybe Asda would reduce theirs after the next delivery, but I saw the tanker pulling out from Donnington today and four hours later they are still ripping the customers off. Got bugger all on the shelves as well inside.
Still I'm up in the Nescliffe area in next couple of days and my petrol will last me till then. Shocking when many of the local village pumps are far cheaper than the big boys in towns. 🤬🤬🤬

You been to see the lost village like us u guess. Well worth the effort for me, doubt I will ever see it again. Went up to the Lakes last summer to see Mardale emerge from Haweswater for a few weeks. Not much chance this summer, its the one place in UK that has seen significant rain most of the summer.

Yes , along with a load of other people on holiday I think. Some very pleasant Forest walks along the lake using Forestry Commission tracks . I’m told some areas have been cleared of trees because of disease . The small RSPB place just over the dam by the cafe has closed much to my surprise . Apparently it didn’t do enough business to warrant keeping it open plus the building it was housed in was in need of some refurbishment , leaky roof etc. Always a pleasant amble to the lake through Llansantfraid and Llandrinio . Sad to see some shops closed , looks like for good but in some places new housing estates are springing up . Must still be some who can afford to buy and commute cos there isn’t a lot of choice in the jobs market in that part of Wales . I suppose sunny Shropshire is an option.

Filled the tank up from top to bottom at a surprisingly cheap (in the current market) ESSO last week on the 49, was the same price as Grindley Brook at 172.9. At the time 10p lower than Shrewsbury. Petrol a good 20p lower than Shrewsbury... 11 days on, still can't get close to that in Salop. Think I've seen a 177.7 creep in.

There's no way unleaded should be over 1.60p at this point.
They're just taking the p**s.

Sainsburys in Telford 164.9 today. Probably the cheapest in Telford I'd guess.
Still way too high, and Asda not being inclined to join them still ripping the motorist off at 168.7 🤬
