Good luck to him.
York's a funny one isn't it. I mean its a fair sized city and yet they never seem to be able to get the locals interested. When you look to the 8,000 Lincoln can pull in for example. York must be twice the size.

Best of luck to him. Treatment here was nothing short of a disgrace.

So do I. He deserves to succeed. He may not have waved but to me he had dignity and was handed a poisoned chalice when he came here.

Made much worse after (a) the season the club had just had and (b) the annoyance about how the previous manager had left. Only success of a similar scale was ever likely to have been enough for whoever took over that season.

I'm very pleased that John Askey is part of the management team at York City.

Surprised he wasnt first choice to return to Macclesfield when Robbie Savage and his mate took over. He was a legend there before he came to us. I am sure he would have jumped at the chance to get the club back up the leagues.

Must be great potential at York City. The rugby league club has been revived massively, so the city clearly has an appetite for greater sporting success.
It's a beautiful place - I'd be pleased to see the club back in the EFL & wish them and Askey well.

They share it with York City Knights RL club, who are a top half Championship club these days.

So long as they are winning, I shouldn’t think that will worry them in the slightest.

Best of luck to him. Treatment here was nothing short of a disgrace. He probably came here at the wrong time, expectations remained high after the ‘one off’ Hurst season and a quiet, humble guy like John Askey was never going to win many people over, I wish him the best of luck but I don’t expect to see him managing in the Football League again.

Surprised he wasnt first choice to return to Macclesfield when Robbie Savage and his mate took over. He was a legend there before he came to us. I am sure he would have jumped at the chance to get the club back up the leagues. Wasn’t he owed a substantial amount of money by the ‘old’ Macclesfield? Certainly enough to (understandably) not want anymore to do with the club, noisy Welsh ‘character’ pundit or not… Trouble with being ‘part of the furniture’ at any sports club or organisation (pro or amateur) carries the risk of being taken for granted, potentially leading on to being screwed over / scapegoated. Which brings a desire to put the club in the past and move on to pastures new.

That was a strange way to go about it...comes in to help out and less than a week later he is manager.

I see that Askey started with a thrilling 0-0 draw at Curzon Ashton today.
