Some stats from yesterday.
MK only managed 3 shots on target (only 1 real chance) MK only managed to have 5 shots from within the box. Town successfully defended 11 corners Town blocked 7 shots Of the 27 attempted crosses town managed to get it clear first time 24 times We made 21 Tackles, 16 Interceptions and 27 Clearances.
MK had 71% possession and spent a large part of the 2nd half pushing for the equaliser. Add to that imo our best defender was side-lined them stats are incredible.
Shout out to EBL who was a rock at the back and won everything.
Special mention to Marosi who was great when called upon, great save in the first half, off his line quick to close down the angle and manager to get his foot to it. His kicking has been much improved and he seems to be kicking it more central or shorter. He also came out for a couple of crosses. These are the kind of performances he needs to be putting in.
Despite conceding in every game (until yesterday) I have been impressed with how organised towns are when defending the ball, every man knows their job and cover each well 95% of the time.
Also after yesterdays win we are actually only 1 win away from 15th place, which considering our start is incredible. Still lots to do but we have been improving.

The whole team's defensive effort was really good yesterday. We'll survive if they can continue at that level, but we can't afford to drop off it too often.

I’m delighted with the clean sheet and the lads at the back stood tall against constant pressure but I don’t think it was as vintage at the back as some will have you believe. First half especially I thought MK Dons found their man in and around the box with ease considering we had every man back, on another day we perhaps get punished but to be fair despite their strikers and number 20 & 8 getting in numerous good positions we did still seemingly prevent anything meaningful happening. Something to build on.

I don't think anyone's suggesting vintage, but when you're second bottom of the league and shut out one of its highest scoring teams despite it dominating possession, your defensive performance can surely be described as a good one.

Was one of their shots the screamer from outside the box, heading in just below the bar when someone just managed to get a head on it. Look like it was going straight in. Who got their head on it?

Interesting stats. I would agree that Pierre has been our defender over the last couple of seasons past but I think he has possibly been the weakest link at the back so far this season - from his limited opportunities Nurse has impressed me most.

EBL? Have we signed a new player at last? no I think its an abbreviation for Ebanks-Landell, I have been using it myself amongst others since 2019 he's a defender for us does it upset you ?

Most of the defence have been below par this season but it must be much harder when there’s no midfield to support them.
Yesterday was a bit more of the 11 men behind the ball in our own half that’s inevitably harder for teams to break down. Still some good last ditch blocks and interceptions though.

I think what we played yesterday was what is called the 'low press' in footballing circles. Whether it was a planned tactic or we just played it because of the lack of a decent midfield I dont know. However, it is not much of an advertisement for the brave new world we were promised under SC that it looks like we have already gone back to the tactics often played by the former manager.

SC tried to play positive football. For one reason or another it did not work. It is now time to get points on the board.

And still in league one. Sam had an embarrassment of riches to choose from compared with what we have now. Wasn't it you who was perfectly relaxed about dropping down to League two if we kept Sam at the helm, pointing out it was our rightful place anyway? Now you're telling us that we've fallen so far! This season's problems have been well documented but we're still doing better than we were last year.

I think I said leave things as they are , if the worst happens we start in league 2 with a new manager and full budget that’s not possible at this moment in time , I think I also mentioned that after paying off and enticing a new manager funds would be down and redundancies would happen , I think I said whitters would be fav all this and we may have stayed up anyway 😜

That is the most solid defensive performance this season. We will need to be at the same level tomorrow night at Oxford

Even with the injury problems, Sam had a lot more to work with. But funny how they all came back once Sam had gone.

When we start doing comparisons of recent squads, the takeaways for me are the squad under Ricketts was bloated with ageing/average players and was nowhere near as good as some people claim it was, I say this because some people have said it was a decent squad but just badly managed. And then the squad we have today under Cotterill is imbalanced, thin & weaker than last season.
In both instances, the managers are ultimately responsible.
