considering how well he has done this season i hope we dont bring him back to son and he be given the time he needs untill he is fully fit www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/2021/09/29/steve-cotterill-provides-injury-update-on-absent-shrewsbury-midfielder-josh-vela/"Shrewsbury Town will monitor midfielder Josh Vela's knee problem after he was forced out of last night's home defeat to Wycombe.Vela limped out of last Saturday's 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon after taking a bang to the knee in the second period. Manager Steve Cotterill admitted his absence is a 'tough one to take'. The 27-year-old was unable to feature three days later against the Chairboys, where he was missing from the matchday squad, albeit he did watch on at Montgomery Waters Meadow. It remains to be seen whether last season's player of the year will be fit for the trip to his former club Bolton on Saturday.Boss Cotterill brought left wing-back Luke Leahy into Vela's central midfield void, with George Nurse filling in on the left as Town went down 2-1 to the visitors, with Shrews old boy Joe Jacobson and birthday boy Ryan Tafazolli the Wycombe match-winner. "(He's) OK – just not OK enough," Cotterill said on the midfielder's fitness. "We just have to monitor him over the next few days and see how it is and how it settles down."

However, this just shows up how weak we are - it’s a team game and for that we need a team not have to rely on one person being the end all of it.

One more yellow card and we lose him for another game anyway.
And with Davis proving increasingly disappointing and SC not keen on either Leshabela or Daniels, we have a serious problem. Letting Norburn go with no immediate replacement lined up was utter madness.

I just hope we don’t rush into getting a replacement 🤪 I'm sure they won't. They will take their time to identify a potential target, draw up a financial package and contract offer. They will then try to sign the potential target in the last hour of the January transfer window (so as to save paying four weeks of wages by not signing them at the start of the transfer window), and when the offer is rejected, they will move onto their second identified target...... .......which...... A - doesn't exist & B - the transfer window has now closed anyway!!

C. Blame the agent for the collapse of the deal or claim it would have taken too long to get the player up to speed anyway.

I'll judge Cotterills success on results and league position ignoring any bad luck stories bought on by a wafer thin squad.....

It’s worrying what the first 11 would look like if one of the centre backs got injured - We’d probably see 3 left backs starting and the one playing at left back would be more suited to left wing.
We have 18 outfield players, take away the unfancied Daniels, Ogbeta, Leahabela, Pyke & Caton and we’re basically working with 13 outfield players and that’s without any injuries.
Simply pathetic and not good enough.

www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2021/09/29/bruno-lage-is-looking-at-free-agents-for-wolves/"Wolves head coach Bruno Lage has revealed he is looking at the free agent market, but maintains that he wants quality over quantity. but only if they can find a player that will add significant competition to the squad." We are looking for everything, but what I’m not looking for is for players just to come and fill the squad. Those ones I don’t want. “We need to bring two or three more players to have more competition, guys who come to help us. “Guys who come just to fill in the squad, I prefer to work in the way we are working with just these guys. Yes (we are looking at the free agent market) but for players who could help us, not just to fill the squad.”

I don't see how taking a 'punt' on a player that has only previously made 1 professional appearance (and 1 since), is any less risky than taking a 'punt' on a proven player with league experience, due to his lack of match fitness??
Surely that is just hypocrisy?

We seem to have a lot of posters on here with experience of negotiating and signing professional footballers. Perhaps they would share with us, the names of some of the players that they have snapped up.

I've been recommending him ever since! Jamie Ward who was on loan to Stockport from Villa - signed by Torquay.

But would they have accepted the terms that you would have been able to offer, within our budget? You only have to look back at the reaction on here when a) a player has been given a one year deal and then leaves for nothing 12 months later or b) a player is given a 3 year deal and then takes a while to settle I well remember the reaction when we signed a player who had floated around Conference and lower L2 level without setting the world alight. The punters on here were highly critical of the manager for signing him. You may remember him, his name is Shaun Whalley. I wonder what became of him?

and what we all feared when we didn't adequately strengthen in Summer AND replace Ollie Norburn.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that leaves one natural central midfielder in the squad (Davis) is that correct? Don't know how many times you can say the recruitment was dreadful but lord above going in to the season with two natural CM's is such a bad decision I'm running out of words for it.

I'm kind of glad that SC will struggle to replace him for the next few games. Might make him realise how much a failure his recruitment was in the summer.
That said we've performed well without him so I don't expect it to harm us too much
