Why are we on the Backfoot already? Poor preseason fixture list, massive lack of recruitment. Yes the gaffers been ill, granted but just feels like we’re massively under prepared. But our recruitment team and Brian haven’t been off? Yes “there’s still a long time to go before the start of the season” and we might make 4 or 5 signings before then, but In the past we’ve been told that players who’ve come in will take a few weeks to get up to speed as they missed preseason. So our first 4-5 games will be spent getting up to speed. Our first 4-5 games seemed to me to be easier games to bank some points

We'll see, Steve knows what he is doing. He has dedicated people like Abes and the rest of the management team and players from young Ogbeta to Shaun who will run through fire for him. I doubt the sort of person Steve will be bringing in from here will be short of a pre-season - they will have been dedicated enough to tie up with a club to get fit.

Do we even have an away strip or a third strip? Or are we just playing every match this season in the blue and bright yellow. Seems like the new season has caught the whole club by surprise.

By the sound of it, an iffy performance, but a decent result.... I’m quite relaxed about it all. Preseason is rarely representative of the season proper. I remember a similar match at Kidderminster Harriers under GT about a decade ago, we lost that night but ended the season promoted with some real champagne football at times. The squad may be small, but you would think nearly everyone involved so far is genuinely going to have a big part to play this season. Confident we will plug the gaps with some more quality, Norburn and Pierre will be back soon and Exeter will give us a decent passing football test before we kick off v Burton. All will be well. (waits for Pilch to resurrect this post in April 2022.... ) The GT result your referring to is when we about to start a fourth tier campaign and at that time Kiddy were one division below, I know you cant read too much into pre-season games but perspective needed. Lets not kid ourselves that Hereford are sixth tier and we are trying to compete in the third and at times they were far better side. I'm not massively worried but am as concerned as others that our best test in pre-season will be a ok League two team.

I share the concerns over the relative lack of pre-season activity on the pitch, and the lack of recruitment, but to link this with the thundering irrelevance which is the strip goes too far methinks!

There’s no guarantee if you play higher division teams that they will bring all their best players. How many times have we played Villa, Wolves etc over the years for them to send their U21s or be simultaneously playing another first team fixture elsewhere? Remember that time when Manchester United sent a team down and we had the joy of seeing a very young Paul Pogba lining up alongside their 50 year old goalkeeping coach? We’re evidently trying something a bit different with the preseason workload this year, let’s see how it pans out....

As said, trying something different. Teams like Hereford and Telfotd actually want to beat us.

I think SC is looking for quality rather than quantity and that will take a bit more time. He tends to go for experienced pros (and there's nothing wrong with that) but let's hope we can also unearth another young gem like Ogbeta. Most players now at higher levels will be thinking they will be in the first team but when the season starts might well drop down a level to get regular game time. One of the striking things about the start of last season was the lack of impact made by the majority of the loan players and we don't want to fall into that trap again. I don't really expect us to be challenging for promotion this season but top half of the table would be good progress and something to build upon.

I did feel concerned but we’ve had confirmation from Brian that this is the way Steve likes to prepare… relying on more double training sessions lower league friendlies and a smaller squad.
We won’t have long to wait regarding finding our which is the best way to prepare. With Burton being the first game we’ll see how higher recruitment numbers and more competitive friendlies compares with our recruitment and double training sessions. I’d expect us to easily equal Burtons fitness and with home advantage we should win easily.
We should be able to easily compete squad / wages wise with Burton who ‘rolled over’ their ST’s, much reducing turnover this year with our policy of charging full price frozen from last year. We must have a budget advantage.
Time will tell who’s made the best preparations.

It's certainly an extraordinarily low-key start to the season.

Its a weird season where players might be thinking location/family and alsorts over money.
Its a totally new pre-season, new manager, new way of working. It'll start to become panic mode if there's no new signings by Friday 30th.

Strange pre-season? You are not kidding.
A job to keep CI Swann busy for a couple of weeks.

No signings yet post Hereford. but Bloxham back in training today which is almost as good as a signing.

The lack of signings don't worry me, ideally you'd have them all in place early but there's always a late flurry of signings players as their demands come down. But the low key approach to everything seems strange, even by our standards.

I’m certainly not panicking anyway!

Relevant that schools broke up that day. Why don’t the take and publish clear pictures so we could help ‘identify’ the idiots?

just watched these and I'm not sure what was the most embarrassing the overall camerawork EBL foul as an amateur sped past him the close up of scooters head the way they peppered our goal or the squad celebrating at the end

Also I wouldn’t say the squad were celebrating, it’s something SC is bringing in to try and build a relationship between the fans and players. Won’t argue with the rest of your points though 😆

I like the kit , the only bit I dont like is it does need a number on back or it looks odd if I like the material I will get one

I'd guess our kit has had no amber in it for less than 10% of our history, and we've had more yellow over the years than amber we've had even more different shades of blue but no one moans because they cant tell the difference between different shades of blue and lets not forget our favourite kit, the spinal tap kit blue and orange

Strangely there isn’t any ‘proper’ highlights on YouTube for either Telford or Hereford games yet. I like the idea of having alternate highlights with a bit of realism in there, feels like being at the match a little more even if you’re not. I’d imagine once the season starts they’ll be both normal and alternate versions.

Funny way of reporting. The police stated that both sets of fans were kept apart and no arrests were made. Bit different to a 40 man fight.
