Interesting small article in this weeks Telford Journal (possibly the Chronicle etc as well) about the fors and against of a cashless society. Lots of positive and negative thoughts, possibly the one that caught my eye the most is "only one in four (26%) people would see a move towards a cashless society as positive, while one in three (34%) view it as negative." The propaganda hasn't fully been directed against using cash yet, too busy scaring people about a glorified cold. It will come eventually. Too many will resist against using cash. The backlash about withdrawing cheques was big enough and that got defeated, cash will be a lot bigger. Cash wont die out till at least another generation are pushing up the Daisy's.

I hope you're right, however seeing how easily the public have bent over to some abserd restrictions over the past 18 months without any critical thinking has distroyed any faith in any democracy. If the media say something should happen the majority will think that too. Remember when the govenement said that vaccine passports will never be introduced?

No don’t think they ever have.

There also used to be a toll to go across the Cob at Porthmadog but I think that's long gone 😊 Ha, just posted on that! Yes, thankfully they widened the Cob some years back - it was always a bit of a hairy drive when a coach or lorry appeared coming towards you. I think the toll actually helped regulate the traffic flow into the dreadful Porthmadog bottleneck. Once they built the bypass and relieved the town's traffic, having to stop for the toll would just have been a bit of a nuisance. The little toll house remains - not sure what else it could ever be used for. Just out of interest, is Cob Records still in Porthmadog or disappeared years ago?

Surely the most important thing is this debate is that there remains a choice for people as to what they do. Neither is right and neither is wrong.

Last time I was in Barmouth was in October 2017 for the 150 years celebration of the opening of the bridge. We left the car at Barmouth junction and walked into Barmouth over the bridge. Glad we did because it was absolutely heaving down by the harbour. My dad still reminds me of that night. He has a caravan in Talybont so around 4 miles away from Barmouth, we persuaded him to go to this, we drove down from the site and parked up down a side street off the front. When we came to leave we were stuck in traffic and probably took us around 2 hours to get out of Barmouth, was utter chaos and it's fair to say they underestimated the numbers turning up.

Its YOUR money, you should be able to do whatever you legally want with it. Far too many businesses fail to realise that the customer is always right (and have a choice of where and how to spend their money).

I always pay a visit when I'm there - and to Browsers, one of my favourite bookshops and which the current owners have really done a great job with. I always buy something from both when I go, which is probably about 3-4 times a year.

Just been to the air and water machine at the Asda petrol station - even it takes credit cards. I dont think anyone offers free air anymore, I think its something the gov should insist is compulsory for every garage selling fuel I have to admit myself I've refused to check my air for the sake of 20p, and therefore possible driven around with illegal tyres, I doubt I'm on my own by a long shot yes they cost money, but it should come under H&S

What’s the difference between an app confirming it (for travel) or a passport? I’d agree about the pub for now but time will tell in the long term.

You wouldn’t be liable for the loss, bank would cover this unlike cash in you pocket, loose it and gone for good.

Not a lot, if a country decides its a condition of entre then fair enough. My point was that the government can, have and will go back on anything that they say. Going off topic a lot here but my main concern about the vaccine passport is not the actual passport its what it leads to, what else will be put on it in future!?

A worrying number of retailers now refuse to serve customers who want to pay with cash. Even as restrictions are eased in England, the march to a cashless society shows no sign of slowing.
But this flies in the face of what many of us want. Five million adults use cash for most of their purchases, according to a report published by the Financial Conduct Authority, the City watchdog, at the end of last year.
Usage has been increasing as restrictions have eased. The Post Office said cash deposits in June were up by 17pc compared with May. The £2.2bn total was the highest amount ever deposited in a single month. Withdrawals totalled £636m, the most since March 2020. But do we have anywhere to spend it? Many shops, restaurants and other businesses are still refusing to accept notes and coins.
Daily Telegraph.

I've only once had any issues paying by cash since Covid started, at a small cafe right at the start of 1st lockdown easing. Nowhere else have I seen any issues with customers paying by cash, despite notices advising payment by card. The cafe soon fell into line with cash payments when I said I hadnt brought a card (genuine reason, hadnt even thought about it). If my cash was refused I would walk away without purchasing.

Another big fail for Mrs Grizzly today. She doesnt carry cash in the main, relying on card payments.
Well today she was desperate for a pee and being in a strange town we managed to find the local conveniences. Finally found them and guess what, she didnt have 20p so had to walk cross legged for a good bit longer.
I did have to point out that we are far from being a cashless society, but shut up when she suggested a pub so she could relieve herself. Every cloud etc 😇

universalcreditsuffer.com/2021/07/25/sunak-britcoin-plan-signals-push-to-cashless-society/SUNAK BRITCOIN PLAN SIGNALS PUSH TO CASHLESS SOCIETY. The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak is reported to be keen on introducing a National Digital Currency called “Britcoin” which would be a direct equivalent to physical money. In reported plans it would be overseen by the Bank of England giving the Treasury the same control it does with Sterling. While some people may see this as a welcome move, others will be wary about putting their faith in a totally digital system.

Buy some crypto folks, you'll regret it later if you don't. Buy a diversified portfolio that matches your attitude to risk and investment goals, and does not exceed your capacity for loss. You will regret it if you don't.

Commodities generally - these are costs of production and the thrust of capitalist production is to bear down on costs of production.
