I really like The Shins, especially Chutes too Narrow (2003) and Wincing the night away (2007), great summer listening, just don't ask me to explain the lyrics! Love listening to Radio Paradise via the internet.https://radioparadise.com/home Fantastic mix of styles and genre of music - if you don't like a particular song then you just press the skip button. I want to listen to more of The Shins. I first heard "Phantom Limb" on the radio some years ago and it's still a favourite song, an absolute classic. Have you heard Broken Bells, the James Mercer/Danger Mouse spin off? "After The Disco" is a wonderful album, great summer listening again.

I trust your love of the Damned is abating about as much as my love of MARILLION Hello Minor old fruit, my love of the Damned is pretty much for life . The last album was rather good and very well received by the fans and music press alike. They released an e.p. a while ago which wasn't quite up to scratch. I still love most things punky from the good old days and now. I hear lots of good stuff on 6music. I'll give anything a listen except the likes of Maria Carey and Leona Lewis who think just because they can hit every note going they have to do so in 3 and a half minutes. Have you ever heard of Cardiacs A band from Surrey who were around in the late 80s until about 2010 when ironically their main man Tim Smith had a massive heart attack and stroke which eventually killed him. They supported Marillion years ago and got bottled off at most shows. They are very much a marmite band. You either get them or you hate them. I love them to bits. Check out "A little man and a house and the whole world window " or the more polished later album "sing to god". Their most commercial single was "is this the life" which is fabulous. Look after yourself and try not to think of Miss Luzny too much. ( she was rather nice though ). I missed the Miss Luzny bit first read, she was most definitely rather nice, wasn't her name Val or Vicky ?

From memory she had a tendency to lean over you to check your work and i found it rather difficult ( was going to say hard) to concentrate as I was constantly looking down her top. She is greatly responsible for the rather wonky way I've turned out.

Hi V, Yes, I have listened to, and enjoyed Broken Bells, James Mercer is such a talent and his collaboration with Dangermouse really works.
Another artist I have enjoyed for the past 50 years is John Prine. He sadly died with Covid complications last year but he has made a lasting impression with his humble outlook, sense of humour and songwriting talent- many of which have been covered by some great artists. One of John's last 'intimate' concerts is on youtube - 'House of Strobo', well worth a view.

In the last week or so I have been listening on Soundcloud to two Shropshire based musicians Joel Nathaniel Pike, who records as Tiny Leaves, and Faith Brackenbury. They have played together. Tiny Leaves are (as near as I can describe) new classical compositions for small ensembles. Faith Brackenbury is more free jazz based. Lovely, enriching music.
As it happens Tiny Leaves is playing at the Theatre Severn on Friday evening. I would encourage people to go along.

I think they were supporting Hannah Peel, unless I've mixed up my gigs. Enjoyed them - bought a CD.

Its opening 3 minutes or so are off-the-scale dramatic but you'd probably need a 100,000 crowd and pyrotechnics to do it justice, not to mention a bloody good team!

It had a bit of a "right here, right now" feel to begin with but became quite dark and slightly sinister. A team running out to that would have to really mean business.

I am currently getting into "What's your pleasure?" by Jessie Ware.
Remember where you are is the standout track.

Massive Wagons and Gerry Cinnamon are probably my "newest" listens with the latter a nice surprise as its something different to what I normally listen to - Airbourne, The Darkness and Iron Maiden.
Also can't beat a bit of Frank Turner. Went to the Download pilot event and the atmosphere during his set was electric!

I have just bought "if music could talk", by the Clash, a double LP of interviews and music from Sandinista, and Junco Partner 12" by Joe Strummer.
In other music, been listening to X Ray Spex, after the excellent documentary on Sky Arts.
Also, The Bends by Radiohead. Great album.
I will maybe visit a shop called "Wax and Beans" in Bury, who I have bought from (mail order) in the next few weeks.

I have some Miles Davis albums from way back but, I'll be honest, it was "in my painting studio" that impressed me the most. My recent listening has been Vampire Weekend (first album is perfect for summer), Tindersticks, Ry Cooder and the Beatles.

Age showing here. I haven't heard of a lot of the groups/artists mentioned. I've always been a reggae lover. That's old reggae, not the modern stuff. Talented artists like Desmond Dekker. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desmond_DekkerAlso a fan of Eddie Grant from The Equals. When we went on a sight-seeing trip on Cape Verde, Eddie was our tour guide. When he came over to the coach, I said to the dragon, "Oh look, it's Eddie Grant". When he got on the coach, he said, "Hello everyone, my name is Eddie". (The liar!). At the end of the trip, I went to tip him, and he held out his hand to shake and took the money. I remember thinking, "the driver won't see any of that!". A song that always makes me feel emotional, is Phil Lynott's Yellow Pearl. Radio Shropshire played it just as I was leaving the house for the trip to Wembley to play Rotherham. It also reminds me why I have nothing but contempt for Hurst. Never ever forgive. (But that's going off topic).

After a long time we are finally looking forward next weekend to 3 full days of live music at Carfest North.
A diverse range of musicians will be performing, from Rag N'Bone Man, to McFly, The Charlatans to All Saints. Razorlight to Happy Mondays, it's going to be a blast!!!

I actually really like it, particularly Diapause. But yeah, it's a far cry from their early days, though not sonically disimilar to 2014's Futurology.

All the early Echo And The Bunnymen albums were reissued on coloured vinyl yesterday. I got the full set for just under £100 . They sound better than ever.

Me and 3 mates saw them at the rock city in Nottingham in the early 80s one hot summer night. The place was absolutely chock a bloc and when they came on the place went nuts. It's the only time I've had to come out of the crowd at any gig because I honestly thought i was going to melt or pass out. A good night but my best gig was the Damned at the music hall in 1980 supported by the anti nowhere League. The best £3.00 I ever spent.

Recent purchases: Hendrix, Coltrane, Jesse Osborne-Lanthier, Portishead, John Grant, Nils Frahm, Kieran Hebden, Kae Tempest, Priori, Anne Briggs, Penguin Cafe, Bonobo, Iron & Wine, Keith Jarrett, and Kelly Lee Owens The Kelly Lee Owens record is brilliant. Bought on a whim after hearing her interviewed. The John Cale collaboration I interesting not least hearing him sing in his first language. Kelly Lee Owens is playing as part of the Focus musical festival in Wrexham next Saturday night. I did a couple of nights at the last pre Covid focus festival and it's pretty decent, lots of different bands. Wrexhams a s**t hole though😁
