Just wondering what music my Salopian comrades are listening to. Anything you have not played for a while? Rediscovered Pearl Jam tonight. The 7 cd live at The Gorge 05/06. Miles Davis most days for the last 3 months.

Had a BBC evening of TOTP and Old Grey Whistle Test the other week. It's just amazing that people bought some of those dreadful Stock, Aitkin and Waterman formula tunes when there were tracks from real craftsmen like The Kinks, The Who, Seal, etc. around. Why did people buy Kylie stuff when, even in the true pop field, there was stuff like "Girls on film" from DuranDuran?

Delved into some of the oldest recorded stuff as a sort-of history lesson recently. 1920's delta blues scene. Liking Charlie Patton who played the guitar on his lap and Son House who does a load of songs with just clapping and vocals.

Something I did nearly 40 years - working through the vinyl collection of the Staffordshire Library service as a young man. I still listen to Mance Lipscombe and Mississippi John Hurt. Back in the day I was also partial to Gary Davis and Skip James. In fact I used to be able to play Stackerlee and Cocaine Blues.

My daughter has just introduced me to Union Jack radio. Plays only British songs.
They have dance and rock channels too.
It's not a new station I don't think but it's only just come onto my DAB radio.
They played some songs the other day from the likes of Joe Jackson and XTC that I've not heard in years 😊
I've also been listening to Gerry Rafferty of late on my play list.

Feelquite young looking at some of those records above. Enjoying Sleaford Mods at the moment, mates got me into some recent Punk records too. Still love Queens of the Stone Age and even the new Foo Fighters album.
Always love a bit of Bowie now and again too and cant beat a listen of the classics from Led Zep.

As I am still working from home - I subscribe to a number of programmes on BBC sounds in particular Johnnie Walker's 'Sounds of the 70s' and 'The Rock Show'. However one programme I did come across by chance is 'Stereo Underground' - lots of old favourites in particular old and new punk plus other 'off the wall' stuff. Worth checking out if you are inclined.

[For the benefit of the more excitable elements on here, that question implies no racism or brexit support - but who knows!?] I don't really understand why a radio station would limit itself to the music of a single country, great though I'm sure much of its output must be.

I’ve revisited my music collection over lockdown and been playing a lot of 90s music. Echobelly, Sleeper and Bjorks debut album all all ones I hadn’t heard for a while
More recently really like Nadine Shah’s Kitchen Sink album of 2020 and Dry Cleanings New Long Leg from this year

About 18 months ago I made a conscious effort to try and broaden my musical repertoire, this was partly down to being slightly embarrassed at only liking about 5 bands, however was also down to the fact I like live music but don't particularly enjoy spending £60+ for a ticket to a gig. So by discovering loads of upcoming and bands it meant I could go to some small, intimate gigs for and get change from £20......I think I managed two gigs before lockdown struck! Anyway, my genre of music hasn't really expanded but have discovered a whole range of new bands out there such as The Snuts, The Lathums, The Reytons etc, this was mainly through following certain people on twitter who share lots of new music, including Robert Carlyle (bizarrely).
I know its very controversial but Spotify has been really good as I've listened to acts I'd never dream of buying an album previously. It has also opened up my eyes to some older music, I've discovered that some classic bands have produced some absolute s**te and god knows how many songs are actually covers.

Why? No doubt to promote British music and we've lots of it 😊 I've certainly been impressed with their play list since I've started listening to it. They certainly give air time to songs I've not heard for years.

Bought on a whim after hearing her interviewed. The John Cale collaboration I interesting not least hearing him sing in his first language.

And I'm really not a hater. I kind of liked the doc as it showed how they nearly didn’t make it , struggled like hell and Simon Le Bon turned up out of the blue and answered all their prayers , a different world from all these Simon cowell type bands thrown together , I much prefer to to today’s ready made bands who sing other people’s songs

I watched a documentary on The Jam recently. I always liked them, have lots of their singles and albums from the time, saw them live just before they broke up, but I don't think I fully appreciated just how good they were. They never stood still, always willing to try new ideas - they led their fans into new directions, rather than the band always trying to please the fans. Crucial, that. Then Weller just stopped it all when he thought it had run its course.
