Why would he go to such a tiny club? Call them tiny all you want, done what we haven't be able to do for the last few decades and on free transfers.

Haven't been following Wycombe closely but I expect they've done what other clubs of a similar stature have done and just not massively overspent chasing survival last year, leaving them with a decent war chest this time around.
Considering the parlous financial state of most of this division I expect they'll be right up there - made a few decent signings already besides Vokes.

Is anyone else starting to form the view that we've backed ourselves into a corner by being unrealistic in our transfer targets? Aneke, Will Keane, Vokes - it never really felt like these would come off, now we're getting very close to the start of the season and in serious need of numbers/quality in more than one area of the pitch.

As fans we don't know enough about the finances to judge what is realistic and what isn't. We just need to trust in our experienced manager to bring in the best players he can within the budget he has been given. We are short on numbers now but the situation will probably look very different in a week or so.

I would still prefer us to be like that. I would hope SC has some decent loan moves lined up if we miss out on signing our own players. Would still back us in this situation compared to this time last season under Ricketts.

I get the feeling that Cotterill is a quality not quantity guy. I think we will only make signings if he's happy it's worth it and I think this is borne out by the level of experience of some of the players he's brought in so far. I'd rather see us sign just one real quality player and use our youth yo bulk out the squad than bring in a load of journeymen or the manager's pals.

Why would he go to such a tiny club? Tiny ambitious club 👍 I just hope SC can live upto the expectations of the fans. He did a fantastic job last year and the story of his battle against Covid whilst still influencing the team is really inspiring but are we putting him on too higher pedistal? The way some talk about him we can't but win the league but there's other factors that haven't changed within the club like our risk adverse attitude.

Question is, where we in for those in the first place or was it no more than idle speculation? I suspect it was very much the latter.

I'd expect most squads to be smaller this season, in terms of experienced professionals. Ours certainly looks small at the moment but there'll be loan players to come in and there's still another month for signings as reality hits home with other clubs, players and agents.

I don't remember SC having a shed load of money at Cheltenham. Juan thing for sure, we'll be well organised.

Ainsworth and whoever does recruitment at Wycombe are very astute. In previous summers they have approached the end of pre-season with hardly a match day squad signed up but have been successful for a few seasons now (last season was not a disaster by any means). We, by contrast, under Ricketts and Askey have been into double figure signings by this stage, many of whom have failed to impress.
I would agree about the quality over quantity policy and have more faith in SC being able to pick good players than either of his immediate predecessors. I also think that we are wise not to break our wage structure on a 'big name' gamble.
Having said that, Vokes's record as a goalscorer is not that impressive so I am not even sure he qualifies as a big name.

I think I’d be asking to go back to my parent club if I realised I’d be described as a cod 😂 some lower league nicknames really are terrible.

I've advocated quality over quantity for as long as I can remember, hopefully a couple more with real quality complimented with a couple of exciting loans.

The way some talk about him we can't but win the league but there's other factors that haven't changed within the club like our risk adverse attitude. Most fans expect a marked improvement from last season and that is realistic. I am not sure if many think we will be pushing for promotion. For me an improvement in the home record leading to a top half finish would do and surely when the squad is fully assembled that can be achieved.

Sam Baldock could be a realistic target.
He is a striker and was captain at Bristol City when Cotterill was there. He has been released by Reading.

by the time he arrived last season staying up was the priority and the risk aversive football was what we needed , this season for me a top half position without hovering over the bottom four would be a move in the direction, i hope we see a more of balance with more attacking intent and some entertainment .

He is 32 and only 5ft. 7 inches tall. Same height as Jamie Cureton, but he was 35 when he joined Town. Make of that what you will.
