...AKA Mr Sunak bids to become Prime Minister.
We knew most of it beforehand, as always.

Incredible response to the pandemic financially. The fact they're going after bigger business is a positive step. We knew we'd be paying back this for a long time, it's good that there's certainly until 2026 for the majority of people. Couldn't be much fairer.

Is Sunak some kind of commy marxist? Imagine raising corporation tax like that.

Is Sunak some kind of commy marxist? Imagine raising corporation tax like that. Raising it for the most profitable businesses is the most sensible move. The conservatives back small business. One thing we need to improve is the tax super businesses pay (or don't pay) such as Amazon, Apple etc.

he's needs to cut out the needless drama, its cringeworthy

You can absolutely guarantee one thing - whatever is implemented, however good it bad it might be. It will undoubtedly be pulled apart by the opposition.
Absolutely nailed on certainty, or would you say I'm just a cynical old git......

Starmer couldn't say much, it was a great budget. Extended grants, extended support, tax freeze on individuals.
In response to the situation we find ourselves you couldn't have asked for too much more.
Only thing missing for me was a response to care homes and the care sector.

Is Sunak some kind of commy marxist? Imagine raising corporation tax like that. He does seem to be implementing most of Labours 2019 election manifesto pledges on the economy Devil will be in the detail over how many companies actually pay that but a Conservative chancellor putting corporation tax up to 25% is a pretty big policy change - all be it in very unusual times

Add a missed opportunity on a green revolution and this budget is unravelling as a sticking plaster budget without addressing the really big financial issues.
Too many things like the influence of vested interest Tory back benchers being pandered to by not raising alcohol taxes and house buyer incentives that have proven in the past to simply increase house prices.

...AKA Mr Sunak bids to become Prime Minister. At least we know he's not in it for personal financial gain. He's allegedly already richer than the Queen

Imagine the squirming of the London Champagne socialists as news of jlbs moving out of the capital hits home. They will be squiming all the way to the bank as they sell their homes in Islington and buy a property in the countryside, then continue to work from home most of the time.

Imagine the squirming of the London Champagne socialists as news of jobs moving out of the capital hits home. There is an episode on 'Yes, Prime Minister' on that very topic.

You think hammering the local pub more is the right thing to do? They've barely traded for 14 months and most are just small businesses making a few quid and super rich by any stretch.

One thing I can't understand is that there are people who are surprised that somewhere along the line the taxpayers of the UK will need to pay for all this expenditure.
Same as most budgets the Chancellor slips a tenner in your hand whilst stealing your wrist watch.

£300 million for major spectator sports, supporting clubs and governing bodies in England as fans begin to return to stadia.
How far that will go I have no idea but some help at least.
Plus...
£2.8 million to support a UK and Ireland bid to host the 2030 World Cup and £25 million investment in UK grassroots sports, enough for around 700 new pitches.

Didnt realise that we have not long finished paying for the 2nd World War effort, sometime into this century. Wow that is some statistic.

Did it ever bother you, did you ever wish you hadn't?

One good thing about all the Covid costs, if there is such a thing, is that borrowing is at record low interest rates, and is likely to remain that way for a few years yet. Should make eating into reducing the debt easier

Incredible response to the pandemic financially. The fact they're going after bigger business is a positive step. We knew we'd be paying back this for a long time, it's good that there's certainly until 2026 for the majority of people. Couldn't be much fairer. martinshrew thinks something done by a Conservative politician is good. In other news Pope proclaims himself a Catholic and bears defecate in heavily wooded areas.
