Also if we are looking at former Bristol City players who played under Steve that are out of favour maybe we are in for Jay Emmanuel-Thomas upfront? Out of favour at Livingston... But we aren’t looking at former Bristol City players that played under “Steve”. The rationale for you/Hoover linking us to Derrick Williams was total hogwash, as I just explained.

If Charlie Daniels does go in January and seeing as we’re actively monitoring out of favour higher league players, perhaps Lewis Cox could ask top brass if they’re interested in Lucas Digne?
Desperately out of favour as he didn’t feature at all in recent Everton squads. If that weren’t enough, let’s not forget Digne has previously turned out for PSG, who play in a city where Cotterill has previously enjoyed a long weekend break.
Lewis - if you see this then throw a dog a bone, mate.

Having spent my night googling Steve Cotterill's Bristol City squad from five years ago like any sane-minded individual, I do wonder whether we could be in for Luke Ayling? Cynics would point to the fact he's been an ever-present in the Premier League this season for Leeds and has been a mainstay of their team throughout Bielsa's time there. To those cynics, I would simply retort - he used to play for Steve Cotterill, it's basically a done deal at this point.
Didn't our Bristol City friend on here say Cotterill nearly signed Harry Maguire while at Bristol City too? I'd definitely class that as an "out-there" shout, but with his place at United under threat he'll want to ensure he's getting game time before the Euros next summer. And I believe he used to room with Joe Hart on international duty, who still owns a couple of properties in the Copthorne/Gains Park area. As with the Godfrey return rumours, I guess the issue could be whether he gets into our team on form.

Count me out on the Derrick Williams link - certainly not averse to the young lad at Torquay though given he signed for them just this year he’d command a fee so maybe a doubt, Aden Flint wouldn’t surprise me but again doubtful given he’s at Championship level, Frank Fielding might be an ex Cotterill player that may be of interest as could David Davies but I hope we don’t see an influx of players with past links in the way that Ricketts recruited

Hurst did it with ex Grimsby, Turner did it with ex Hereford and so on. I will expect players to come in that have connections to our staff, whether that be the manager, assistant manager or head of recruitment.

Jay Emanuel Thomas would be an interesting one, I remember him being brilliant for Bristol city, thought he’d go on to play premier league, then next I heard he was at Gillingham?! Maybe SC knows how to get the best out of him.

Yep, I agree but I’d hope that we see more from Keith Burt rather than a total dependence purely on players with past links to Cotterill

I'd like Ryan Woods back. Get rid of some of our fringe players and replace with a touch of class.
Can't get in the Stoke side and loaned out to Millwall, not sure if he's got an injury but not played yet this Season. May need regular appearances to get back on the radar a bit.

Hoping we get Daniel’s until the end of the season. Probably suits both parties well. Ryan Woods is loved by Millwall fans. Think he might be injured.

Superb, glad he's doing well. No chance of getting him sadly. Wiki reporting no appearances hence the confusion.

Of all the ex Bristol players, Kieran Agard could be a possibility. Out of favour since Martin came in at MK but had massive success with Cotterill. Injury problems might see to that through.

Just can't wait to see SC's plans unfolding. Best of all, his attitude to the Millar deal indicates he's a careful with the club's money Shrewsbury style experienced manager. Makes it much more likely that he gets club backing if he says any player is worth it.

How about Armand Gnanduillet? Proven goalscorer in this league and a real handful as a target man, Free agent after leaving a club in Turkey and it is upfront where we are most lacking in quality.

Send back Iliev, Zamburek and Fossey. Shift Love and Cummings if possible, maybe Leon Clarke if agreeable to all parties. Let Pugh leave when his contract expires. Loan out Ryan Barnett. Look to sign Charlie Daniels until the end of the season, and Matt Millar or a replacement first choice wing back. Bring in someone who can cover both right back and centre back, someone to compete/rotate with Norburn and Vela at the base of the midfield, someone creative similar to a McAleney like player who could play in the number ten role, oh and a goal scoring striker with pace who can also hold the ball up. Not much really. I suspect we might see mainly loan activity once SC has sorted out all the existing ones. Fossey gone, right and centre back cover in, a creative number ten in. All before the window’s even opened, good start.

Opens proper today. What are we expecting to happen. Some quick sales and loans? Can't see too many in. More just working out the short termers?

Wonder if with the Cambridge connection we may go after Paul Mullin?

Most prolific goalscorers have failed when they get to Shrewsbury over the years. Including several who have scored goals for every club they have been at - apart from us. 😐

I was so excited when a free scoring John Dungworth arrived from Aldershot in October 1979. He never repeated anywhere near his amazing goal scoring record of 58 goals in 105 appearances for the Shots. He did score on his debut though (v Swansea) and so initially we thought we'd struck gold. Any others that spring to mind?

I seem to remember that he was banging them in for fun for Liverpool reserves. Jamie Cureton was another. His loan spell with us wasn't a productive one.
