Good to see another round of county championship games underway.
More opportunities for players to give the selectors a nudge or two!

Big shout that, especially over Gary Kirsten being the other candidate. If he coaches like he played we are in for a treat, or the opposite!!!

Maybe an opportunity to recruit some of the bad boy outcasts, although the old school tie brigade might put the mockers on that. I hope he has a free enough reign to change things, if not I can see him becoming very frustrated very quickly.

Unfortunately Joe Clarke is not exactly pulling up trees so far this season, out for a duck today.

It's proving to be a batsmen's paradise in the latest round of division 1 games...Somerset, Surrey and Northants all passed 500.
Individually, Keaton Jennings of Lancs is leading the way, making 238 in the Roses match.

Worcs 368 Derby 202/1 off only 43 overs.

An excellent hard hitting all-rounder. Shame he chose to represent the baggy greens over England, but still an exciting player to watch nonetheless.
R.I.P. best wishes to his family and friends

Saqib Mahmood: Lancashire and England paceman to miss rest of season with back injury www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/61468818That's a blow for him, I think he would have been high up on the selectors list for this summer. England fast bowlers are a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

England fast bowlers are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Real shame, he and Stone are two bowlers who have all the talent in the world and would be a pretty formidable opening pair if they hadn't both been so plagued by injuries. Teammate Matt Parkinson must be knocking on the door for the test side after some seriously impressive figures in the roses match on a featherbed and against a line up containing Root and in Harry Brook probably the form batsman so far this summer. His career FC economy rate is sensational for a leggie and 125 wickets at 23 is also pretty sensational. Much as I'm a fan of Leach and feel like he's been slightly hard done by, I do think Parkinson seems to have the potential to be something special - clearly England haven't quite fancied him yet given the amount of drinks he's carried, maybe they think he bowls a bit too slowly?

Matthew Fisher is also out for the season with a similar injury to Saqib Mahmood. www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/may/16/saqib-mahmood-ruled-out-for-rest-of-season-for-england-with-stress-fractureOther players McCullum cannot call on include: Jofra Archer, who has not played a first‑class game for more than a year because of elbow injuries; Mark Wood, who hopes to return from his own elbow issue in the next few weeks; and Olly Stone, who has not played first-class cricket since sustaining his own stress fracture of the back last summer. Ollie Robinson, after a string of injuries, had food poisoning during Sussex’s draw with Leicestershire. Surrey’s Sam Curran has publicly targeted the New Zealand series for his international comeback after a long-term back injury, but has so far bowled just 17 overs in four County Championship appearances. Broad and Anderson are of course 100% fit and raring to go.

Matt Parkinson of Lancs must also be in with a shout.

James Anderson & Stuart Broad recalled by England for New Zealand Tests www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/61445437I'm surprised that Lancashire leg-spinner Matt Parkinson isn't in the squad. I'm pleased for Brooks and Potts though, I hope they do get the opportunity at some point in the 3 match series. Pope may also bat at three. Interesting.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer will miss the entire season after suffering a stress fracture of the lower back www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/61491807We seem to have too many fast bowlers injured, rotten luck or what?

Tom Harrison gone. Yippee !! Not before time. Too late. He's wrecked the game with his promotion of The Hundred, and then walked away with his bonus for setting it up.

Good article by Mike Selvey in the Cricketer about the bowling 'problems' that are currently being encountered, he recalls once bowling a 47 over spell in a county game, also twice bowling unchanged through County games. Over protected is a phrase he uses more than once.
