Pearson was a victim of covid-19. www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12124344/nigel-pearson-my-battle-against-covid-19-leaving-watford-and-desire-to-return-to-the-gameIn this cruellest of years, Nigel Pearson lost his beloved mother suddenly, got sacked by Watford and was so savaged by Covid-19 that he couldn’t get out of bed. Even now, eight months after contracting the virus, Pearson takes a mix of steroids, pills and homeopathic medicines to strengthen his immune system, to keep him moving. As a defender for Shrewsbury Town in the Eighties, he would take an inflatable canoe out on the River Severn and paddle until after sunset, once puncturing his boat after colliding with a floating Chinese restaurant he had failed to spot in the dark. What happened? “I had Covid in March,” he replies. He isolated for ten days, thought he had recovered but problems grew in June. “My immune system was affected to such an extent that my heartbeat became irregular, my resting pulse became very, very high. I developed the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.” His knuckles buckled, even his lips swelled so much that he avoided a Zoom press conference as Watford’s season resumed on June 20. “To work through that was a challenge. I was able to do it without too many people being aware which was good. My real problems developed through August . I deteriorated. I had swollen joints and couldn’t move, and shortness of breath. I felt I was going backwards. I went on a course of steroids, saw a rheumatologist and I’m finding my way back. It’s important that I don’t rely on steroids, which is why I’m on new medication now and hopefully my immune system will recover.”

Pearson will know Sunderland are a basket case. But money talks so he could be tempted. But if I were Pearson I'd be waiting for a Championship club to come up although, for some reason, he's not everyone's cup of tea. Sadly he's well out of our reach - were we ever looking for a new boss ;-)

Nigel was an excellent player for us . To read what he went through after Covid is incredible and extremely worrying . I trust he continues to recover and wish him all the best .

He has a pretty good record as a manager but has a reputation as a very difficult character to work with. He has fallen out without the board at virtually every single club he has been at hence hecvnever lasts longer than a couple of years at a club before moving on. Obviously Sumderland dump their manager he he does not get the, promoted every season so if he gets the job it will be interesting to see who dumps who first.

I think he could end up here in 2-3 years, depending on where we are and he is.
