Is this not potentially going to end up costing the club more than if fans remained away from grounds?? If we end up in a tier whereby 2000 fans can attend, Arguably, the club are going to have to provide stewards for the game, along with sanitising solutions. And realistically, the majority of those 2000 fans are likely to be season ticket holders, who will have already paid for their season ticket, meaning there will be very little, if not, no income from gate receipts?? Compared to not having to steward the game and not providing 2000 extra people with sanitising products? only you could be negative about a massive positive, there are probably many fans itching to spend £100 in the club shop, and many more missing several pints and a pie, stewards already seem to be in attendance, and im sure many fans are not having codes sent which is costing the club up to £14 each game, and lets not forget, we are favourites to make the hat next this week for the 3rd round of the fa cup, with the possibility of such a game having fans its promising news

If we can do 1000 in the west stand, I suspect we’d do 500 in both north and south stands. Sure they’re all over it though.

I think you’ll find a few in my post. After the way you’ve been banging on about the club not being able to afford this, that and the other, I thought you might be concerned that this may end up costing the club money? (Question mark) Only you could continue to troll people on here, when you’re love child is deep in the brown stuff and your arguments seem to be flipping on their head. Over 75 posts from you alone yesterday (not to mention the posts and threads you deleted because they didn’t fit with your narrative). (Don’t forget to add the customary ;-) so it looks like you’re joking)

From BBC Sport article:
‘The EFL has a full schedule of matches in the Championship, League One and League Two across 1-2 December.
No decisions have yet been taken but any club in a tier one or two area that requested a move from Tuesday to Wednesday is likely to receive a favourable response if there is no conflict with broadcasting requirements.’
So the Accrington game could be moved to Wednesday night to accommodate fans if we ask? Go for it Brian! I’m sure you’ll make a success of it.
Edit: Actually just seen we’re playing on the Wednesday anyway due to FA Cup game being on the Sunday... so we could have fans at the game next week?

Horse is not being negative, just pragmatic and sensible. It’s no doubt good news and a positive step but if it results in the club losing more money per game than they are now then you have to question is it worth it. I’m sure Brian alluded to this very point much earlier in the pandemic but I could be wrong.
My opinion for what it’s worth is that perhaps the club could just select a small number of games to allow limited numbers of fans to attend until such time that it is financially viable. That way the Salop faithful have their insatiable appetite to watch this turgid team in the flesh satisfied, whilst the costs incurred by the club to enable this are somewhat mitigated.
Not sure how realistic that is from a PR perspective mind.

Brian did say we made a loss on the 1,000 at the Northampton game but they did it in the hope it would allow more fans in only for rates to increase. If we’re in tier 2 and we get 2,000 in I’d guess there’s a good chance the club would make a small profit. Don’t forget the club won’t have to pay for ifollow codes for the 2,000 or have to refund £3.70 a game to adult season ticket holders and will also get income on food and drink sales. Best case scenario of course is if we’re in tier 1 and can get about 2,900/3,000 in, some extra income from match day tickets and would be an absolute no brainier.

I think your last sentence is key, if the club were able to let season ticket holders in matches but chose not to then it would be a PR disaster and you'd get a lot of angry fans demanding refunds. Plus, going back to my earlier point about a return being staggered, if the club didn't choose to let fans in on this reduced basis, it would likely lead to delays in the ground being fully open in the future.

We're understandably all concerned with supply of spaces (how many will be allowed in) but I wonder what demand is right now? I guess most ST holders will want to go, but with no away fans, health concerns, financial pressures, Christmas and our position/footballing issues I wonder how many will want to go? I imagine we'd get to 4k but not much more.

Being slightly cynical I wonder if the announcement to allow limited fans back into grounds is to take the heat off government to offer funding to league clubs as a result of lockdown
Whilst any fans back in grounds is good, and first step to grounds getting fully opened, there are clubs who may struggle to exist beyond Christmas, and these new limited opening arrangements won’t really generate much income, and potentially may see small losses.
It’s similar to the hospitality industry where limited opening means businesses can’t claim government grants - but aren’t getting enough income to survive

We know that there are costs to host a football match and so the question is will there be enough people attending that will see the club turn a profit. And considering that number is capped (possibly at 2000, many of whom may have already paid to attended) then I think its a fair observation from Horse. No idea if they are making a profit each match day as it is with the revenue from iFollow. No idea how much they manage to make from the Trophy games (but then I'm not sure if you can attend them with your season ticket or whether season ticket holders still need to pay to attend). And it really doesn't matter how well we are doing... or that we may have a 3rd round tie coming up (fingers crossed we can do that) if the capacity is capped.👍

I understand all the points being raised about whether or not letting fans into the ground will prove profitable . Let me say that whilst I have been critical of SR I want my club to survive and to remain in this League . If he can turn this season around all to the good . Maybe , just maybe having a few noisy fans getting behind their team will be a good thing , we may start to win a few matches with fans vocal support. We will see , before this happens 3 points tonight would set us up nicely .

I wonder how many will want to attend? It's not an "everybody back on the bus" scenario where everything will be back as normal. It'll be a bit of a strange atmosphere. I'll bet there's a few who will wait to see how things pan out fust.

Feels like this is more about morale and assessing the likelihood of allowing bigger crowds in future.

As I said upthread I wonder if, with some clubs opening and some not depending on what tier they are in, it will make a difference to how any finding will be allocated. For instance is it cheaper to stay closed or is it more financially viable to open? Who knows but it will be interesting to see if the funding allocation is different club to club depending on whether they open or not.

The club did really well to put on the Northampton game but I must say I did not enjoy the experience and not just because we lost. Sitting well apart from your friends with a mask on and wondering whether you are allowed to shout or not is a rather alien experience and not one I wish to repeat. It is probably academic for me at the moment as infection rates in my area are high and we are likely to be in Tier three on Thursday so I will limit my driving to essential trips only. Once I have had the vaccine and infection rates are down I will be back to the Meadow but at the moment it is iFollow for me.

The financial implications i can see are; - possibility to save some money on i Follow if fans are in the groynd not using codes? - chance to sell some food and drink? From my " deep dive" over the weekend i noticed food and beverage sales tended to be over £500k. I guess a lot of that might be sovereign/restaurant but you'd have to think 4k fans might make a bit of a contribution to costs. - other match day sponsorship (match ball etc?) that may or may not happen in the behind closed doors games. Programmes possibly? - costs wise, as others pointed out it looks like a lot of the stewards are there anyway. There might need to be more people there on the gates (both to the ground and the site) but I doubt that's a vast cost compared to the playing budget who are all getting paid regardless. I'm inclined to say the biggest impact might be 1500 - 2k less codes each home game, depending on how many sth show up.

I think they have a moral obligation to reopen if permitted. Fans bought tickets in good faith. They can't just say it's not worth our while

It’s all about where the club is Of course yes. But if I'm in tier 3 then I wouldn't be able to go to the game anyway as I would not be allowed to travel out of my area. Our Council website has up to date COVID cases by Ward. We are currently at 481 per 100,000 but then Tarporley next door is at 971. There are other wards running at 1,300+. When I look at this data it's frightening the level it's at so I wouldn't want to travel anyway, even if I could. Are you sure? Tarporley CW6? is in Cheshire east which has 180 cases per 100000... Cheshire west has 231.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274

It's quite possible for a low number of cases in a small place to cause a spike in cases per 100k due to low population (i.e. a cluster is a cluster wherever you are but 20 cases in Crewe won't have the same effect on the rate per 100k as if you are just looking at a smaller area).
