The Department for Education released the informative clip to mark anti-bullying week – with Gavin Williamson saying “it is never acceptable”. Except, it would seem, in parliament, after Boris Johnson came out to defend the home secretary after she was found to have broke the ministerial code.Patel was adjudged to have “not met the requirement of the ministerial code to treat civil servants with consideration and respect” by Sir Alex Allan, who has since resigned. The lack of action was described as a “Prime Ministerial cover-up” that is “tantamount to condoning bullying” by shadow home secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds, but it is a video by Williamson that is making the biggest splash on social media.

www.lcdviews.com/priti-patel-made-the-new-face-of-anti-bullying/Priti Patel made the new face of anti-bullying COME AND HAVE A GO IF YOU THINK YOU’RE HARD ENOUGH: To mark anti-bullying week, the government has announced a new world-beating-up anti-bullying champion. Who better than Priti Patel? Well, almost anybody, really. But that never puts this government off its stride. Patel’s sheer unsuitability for the role makes her the ideal candidate. Patel has been plagued by accusations of bullying for a long time. So, reasons officialdom, who better to counter bullying than a bully? It’s poacher turned gamekeeper. The Home Office wolf has donned sheep’s clothing, and concealed her iron fist inside a velvet glove. Guidance has been issued on the Home Office website. There you will find a page headed “So, you think you are being bullied, do you?” The guidance is uncompromising. It consists of a sequence of FAQs, which tend to be neither questions nor frequently asked. It starts, promisingly enough, with a section entitled “What is bullying, and how do I deal with it?” The answer is stark. “Bullying is, traditionally, where a bigger boy beats you up and steals your sweets. In fact, this is a useful illustration of Capitalism in action. Grow a pair, and get used to it!” Wise words, I think we can all agree. But there is more to come. “My boss has criticised me loudly, publicly and unfairly. What can I do?” The response is clear. “I’m sorry you feel that way. Strong leadership is to be admired. Up your game, snowflake.” A section of helpful guidance is included. “I want to know what can be counted as bullying,” reads one non-question. The answer is nothing if not deeply unhelpful. “The following actions are NOT considered to be bullying: Words, actions or physical contact designed to display strength or superiority. Being put in your place. Name-calling. Criticism of your work, opinions, or appearance. Asserting your position in the pecking order by belittling your inferiors. Bullying.” Priti Patel will set a fine example to the nation.

Nothing will happen until she shouts and swears at Carrie! Bullies like Patel don't shout and swear at their fellow Ministers (or their partners). I've no doubt that Hancock's description as to how courteous she is with him is fairly accurate. It's the minions and underlings that get the hair dryer treatment from her.

The Tories wheeled out some backbench toady on Channel 4 News last night. His defence for Patel seemed to be, yes bullying is bad and shouldn't happen but "Boris" was the ultimate arbiter and saw there was no case to answer, so that was the end of the matter. Yes, a man who has no sense of personal responsibility whatsoever judging on right and wrong. We are now well and truly through the looking glass.

I'm hoping that Sir Alex Allan, having already resigned, will now be prepared to confirm to us that Boris tried to lean on him to water down his report on Patel.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/nov/21/ken-clarke-joins-criticism-of-boris-johnsons-refusal-to-sack-priti-patelKen Clarke joins criticism of Boris Johnson's refusal to sack Priti Patel. Speaking on Times Radio on Saturday, Clarke said he was troubled by the “awkward situation”. “It was assumed before that if an investigation was taken this far and if anyone was found to have broken the ministerial code, I don’t think anyone would have doubted the minister, to use the old phrase, would have to consider his or her position,” he said. Clarke said he was particularly worried by the resignation of Sir Alex Allan, the prime minister’s ethics adviser, whom he described as “quiet and reasonable”. Former Home Office permanent secretary Sir David Normington also criticised Boris Johnson for backing Patel, condemning the decision as “completely unacceptable”. Normington said it was “the first time as far as I can remember we have a prime minister that doesn’t seem willing to stand up for high standards in public life”. He told BBC Radio 4 on Saturday: “There needs to be a recognition from her [Patel] and the prime minister that she was found to have bullied staff, possibly in three departments not just the Home Office, and that is completely unacceptable.

It gets worse: www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/nov/21/officials-blocked-access-to-witness-in-priti-patel-inquiryBoris Johnson’s former adviser on ministerial standards was prevented from interviewing a key witness for his formal bullying inquiry into Priti Patel. Legal and Whitehall sources have revealed that Sir Alex Allan sought to interview the former top Home Office civil servant Sir Philip Rutnam about his dealings with Patel, but was blocked by government officials. Allan’s bullying inquiry was launched by the prime minister following the resignation of Rutnam over’s Patel’s alleged behaviour and he is suing the government for constructive dismissal. Sources say Allan was informed he could not interview Rutnam for his independent inquiry because of the legal action. Allan, however, felt that his inquiry was being denied potentially crucial evidence. The inability of the prime minister’s former ethics adviser to question Rutnam also prompted a “spirited row” within the government’s legal department. Following Friday’s disclosure that Patel’s behaviour had broken the rules she claimed she was unaware of her conduct. If Allan, however, had been allowed to question Rutnam it would have clearly undermined her defence. On Saturday questions emerged over whether Johnson had attempted to tone down the bullying report amid claims Allan had resisted pressure to make the findings more “palatable”. Sources with knowledge of Allan’s inquiry into Patel confirmed that he had come under “a lot of pressure.” It has also emerged that Allan’s investigation was conducted far more quickly than previously reported and that it was on the prime minister’s desk as early as April. It means Johnson elected to sit on its damning findings for seven months until pressure grew so intense that he had no option but to make its findings public.

Watching Priti bluffing it out with that "Cummings rose garden" smile on TV she didn't really convince anybody. Boris seems to like pushy women though and will protect the Prittster. As soon as she said that she works with thousands of 'brilliant' Civil Servants, then it was clear that her statement dripped with insincerity and was no more than a damage limitation exercise, as was of course Cumming's appearance in the Rose Garden. This constant use of adjectives such as 'world beating', 'outstanding' etc is par for the course it would seem, but is ultimately self-defeating as it over eggs what is usually a very unpalatable pudding.

This government's responses to acts of wrongdoing: Ignore them, Hide them, Bury them, Deny them, Excuse them and generally just brazen them out until forgotten. No standards, no morals, no decency, no accountabilty. Somewhat "over the top" with your last comment, I feel..... "let he who is innocent cast the first stone" springs to mind - after all, who on here has NEVER bullied anyone, I wonder! Obviously, we expect higher a higher standard of our public servants, but perfection?

Oh, I just KNEW that someone would "bite" in response to that comment😂😂😂😂. Do you seriously believe that it was intended to curry favour with somebody in authority....... If so, you either credit me with influence than I really have, or - and I merely put this up for discussion - you take pleasure in levelling gratuitous insults, in short, to bully.

Despite what we see here and elsewhere I think this could actually work out well for the government and its understandable, from a political perspective anyhow, why Johnson will want to stick with Patel. We wait and see...as in whether she will survive this and whether it will have any impact come the next election.

Well, I am mightily relieved to learn that - in my last job. my Manager accused me of being an "intellectual bully", because I won my point, and he was instructed to concede by HIS supererior; at the time, I wore the accusation as a badge of honour, but perhaps, as bullies never pick on the strong (my Manager, in my case) I wasn't really a bully at all🤣!
