I've been watching Des, or most of it anyway. Hadn't known how bizarre the story was, I just thought Nilsen was a West/Sutcliffe type monster. Gruesome, and what a strange and disturbing individual. Tennant plays him so convincingly.

99% certain I did meet him. As a 16yr old, I went down to London, Septemberβ81 to watch Spurs v Ajax. When I got back to Euston Iβd missed the last train back, so had to hang around till morning. Was approached by a guy who was very friendly and said I was welcome to stay at his for the night if i wanted. I politely declined and he went on his way. Scroll forward a couple of years, I picked up a newspaper, read about Nilsen and a shiver ran down my spine. To this day, I couldnβt swear totally 100% that it was him but there seemed to be a lot of similarities. Been watching the ITV series and it brings back memories of what a disturbed individual he was.

I've read the book its based on, its how calculated and intelligent he comes over in the book has been very well portrayed by Tennant.

Not sure how convincing as I never met Neilson I didn't say it was an impersonation.Β It's not an episode of Dead Ringers. I can see a likeness but was not on about that, you say he plays him convincingly, I would not know that as I did not meet him to have knowledge of his character to make a comparison.....

I tried reading Killing For Company some years ago after my housemate binge read it and the detail made me feel physically ill. Tapped out about a third of the way through on murder number two.

Strangely, I never look back and think βwhat if?β Just glad I was a pretty clued up kid I guess. Also, the conversation lasted only about a minute or so and if it was him, he quickly realised I wasnβt homeless, drunk or on drugs and therefore not an easy target. Thought the ITV production was excellent and quite chilling mind.

Nilsenβs words are on record and there is film of him speaking which Tennant will have seen while preparing for the role. Thereβs a documentary this evening which includes footage of Nilsen speaking, so we will be able to judge the accuracy of Tennantβs portrayal for ourselves. It certainly looked to me that he was copying speech patterns and mannerisms.

Also the correct spelling of the name is in the original post and and yet you still manage to get it wrong.

Having a lovely day thanks and will always make a special effort to p**s on your chips.
I would imagine that you have met very few famous/infamous people that have been portrayed on film or TV, but I assume that don't consider any of their portrayals to be convincing. What a very sad life you must live.

Not getting involved in this little tiff and not saying one of you is belittling the other, but never ceases to amaze me how a forum where everyone has STFC in their hearts how much belittling happens on this board.

Hmmm , a very strange exchange of views in my opinion. I must admit Neil I donβt think Downie was trying to belittle anyone . When I read his original post I understood that he was stating a fact ; he had never met Nilsen and therefore wasnβt able to confirm or agree with the original post . Very rately agree with Downie , we are poles apart politically but in truth I think he is being castigated rather unfairly . As I say , my opinion .......

Technically it's a thread about a TV program about a serial killer, but close enough.
I can't deny that I love winding Downie up at every opportunity

In October 1973 aged 15 I went on an Elcock's coach to see the Motorshow at Earls Court & Fulham v Sunderland. Killing time later in Trafalgar square I was approached by a chap who asked me if I had anywhere to stay. I thought how nice of him as I scuttled off for the bus parked nearby. I shiver thinking about it now ....It probably still happens.
