Genesis have reformed and are on tour next Spring.
I would love to go and see them but the cheapest tickets will set me back £360 (for 2). What's annoyed me is that within that figure there is a near £50 processing and handling charge!
My wife thinks I'm mad paying that amount and that Phil Collins no longer drums.
I don't think she's keen.
Decisions decisions 😅

No Peter Gabriel so it's not Proper Genesis. Imagine the Stones without Mick, Zep without Rob or Yes without Jon? Mind you, Steve Hackett live is something special.

I would like to remember Phil Collins as he was. Always think its sad when the greats take it one step too far.

No Peter Gabriel so it's not Proper Genesis. Imagine the Stones without Mick, Zep without Rob or Yes without Jon? Mind you, Steve Hackett live is something special. I agree - Genesis reformed for me has to have Peter Gabriel singing the early/mid 70s songs, never mind Phil Collins drumming. I saw Genesis when Collins first on the singing duties and Chester Thompson was drumming. They were good but I'd much rather have seen the Gabriel era band, although at least I got to see him on his first solo tour. Not that I'd pay £360 to see it! I presume that's through a reseller and not the official outlets? I refuse to use those hideous scalpers - it's bad enough touting when the touts have to compete with genuine punters to get hold of tickets in the first place, but when they use technology to hoover up quantities of tickets within seconds of them going on sale - they're lowlife criminals as far as I'm concerned. And if that's the official price, it's outrageous. Each to their own though! Have you tried twickets? That's a great alternative - people who can't go for whatever reason selling tickets for only a small mark up to cover admin costs. I used it to sell a ticket for David Byrne in Birmingham a couple of years ago. Didn't expect to be able to sell it last minute but advertised on the Saturday, sold it that day and the gig was on Sunday. As an added bonus, the guy I sold it to (who I was obviously sitting next to) was really nice - bought me a beer and we chatted about music.

I'll be at a couple of these shows, come hell or high water. Pretty sure Claphamshrew from these parts has mentioned their love of "The Gen" on here too.

Gabriel on the right, it was a fund raiser for him because he lost his shirt on the WOMAD Festival Steve Hackett made an appearance as well, 60000 very wet and happy people Set list "Back in N.Y.C." " dancing with the Moonlit Knight" (Excerpt) "The Carpet Crawlers" "Firth of Fifth" "The Musical Box" "Solsbury Hill" "Turn It On Again" (vocals: Phil Collins; drums: Peter Gabriel) "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" "Fly on a Windshield" "Broadway Melody of 1974" "In the Cage" "Supper's Ready" "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" (guitar: Steve Hackett) "The Knife" (guitar: Steve Hackett)

Gabriel's Real World Studios was a client (it's also in the village I lived in) and we had complimentary tickets. It was a good day - I remember seeing Faithless and a few world music artists I didn't know, then we bumped into an old friend of my wife's who lived in the Netherlands and the rest is a blur.

We bought tickets when they first went on sale. It a fair bit of laptop time and venue/vendor hopping to find anything that we would be remotely happy paying. We ended up paying around £160 for two tickets middle of the fifth row in Newcastle. Seconds later the adjacent tickets were going for £500! Its mind boggling the sums involved, but whilst there are those willing to spend silly money, then the demand is there. We would not have purchased tickets at any cost, but this is very probably going to be the last hurrah. I believe Collins son is playing Drums on the tour instead of Chester, so probably a similar style. Also Collins only really does a few cameo drum bits which I am sure he will continue to do. I think if they only hit 70% hey day quality it will be worth the trip.

I don’t think he’s fit enough to drum for a whole show, may do a few numbers i saw them a couple of times in 70’s when Gabriel was still the singer. Trentham Gardens for the Foxtrot tour, when they were support to Lindisfarne and headlining at Birmingham Town Hall for Selling England by the Pound. I thought they were great, but things changed after that time

I'll give you U2 supporting Talking Heads and Simple Minds supporting Magazine. All four were excellent - but nobody beats Talking Heads at their best.
